Hi all!

Just that really, looking into Wuka's reusable period pants and just wondering if anyone uses them, how they work (do you have to keep changing pants through the day?) and if they would recommend?

Thanks! Xx

I wear Modibodi mainly, I have a couple of other brands too but I haven’t tried wuka yet.
I really wish pants had been around when i was younger, both my teenage dds (14 and 17) wear them and prefer them to pads. They get through roughly two pairs on their heaviest days, then another pair to sleep in, i only ever use one pair, then a washable pad to sleep in. I have light periods.

Theunamedcat · 18/12/2021 21:08

Yes as back up

SandandFog · 18/12/2021 21:13

I wear a pair all day and then change at bedtime. My periods aren't the heaviest. Best thing ever and like PP they would have been amazing to have as a teenager.

TwinMum89 · 18/12/2021 21:13

I use Wuka period pants and have done for about 6 months.

I really like them. I usually go through 3 medium pairs on my heaviest day. Have one heavy flow pant which I use on my heaviest night.

I rinse them out with cold water and then wash a few pairs together with non-bio detergent. No fabric conditioner.

I prefer to pads because there is more padding, they don’t move around and they don’t rub.

Begonias · 18/12/2021 21:20

In our house we use the Wuka period pants. Myself and both teens. They are brilliant,no leaks and no mess. I normally change twice during the day and wear a fresh one to bed (I'm peri-menopausal so have quite heavy periods first two days). It's so much easier than tampons and sanitary towels. I tend to wash them whilst in the shower and dry them overnight on the radiator airer.
They are very comfortable, initially it feels strange as they are a little bulky but you get used to it. I would definitely recommend them.

Am also thinking about going down this route - have been wondering how many pairs people own and do you get a variety of thicknesses? I had a look online and my head hurt trying to work out what I would need - seems like a big upfront investment, though of course I know it probably works out cheaper in the long run (and of course, that's not the only reason)

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 18/12/2021 21:23

I use cheeky wipes one, on their own or with a pad in the morning if on a heavy day.

DD uses cheeky wipes too but I also picked her up from Primark, much cheaper than any other brands I ve seen but only 1 pain in the pack has full coverage from waist band to waist band whereas the other two just have an absorbant gusset.

You can chuck them straight in the wash but I normally keep a tub in the bathroom with cold water in for them to soak and then rinse them out before washing. Just don't use fabric conditioner as it affects the waterproofness.

I started with just one pair, then gradually bought more. I only need the light to moderate type but my dds have more of a variety in terms of absorption and styles. I like mine so much that if they made the same style in an everyday knicker I think they would be all I wore.
badg3r · 18/12/2021 21:46

I bought two pairs from uniqlo. They are nice, not as bulky as reusable pads and don't move round as much. Really easy to wash. My periods are not super heavy but not light and I can wear a pair all day.

Adventing · 18/12/2021 21:54

I have quite heavy periods. I have a mixture of Modibodi, Cheeky Wipes and M&S period pants, my fave are Modibodi. I mostly wear them with reusable pads and change the pads throughout the day. At night I wear them with a pad and this has been the biggest game changer, so much more comfortable than disposables. I use earthwise girls reusable pads. On lighter days I'll wear just a reusable pad with regular underwear.

Overall the shift to reusable has been so much easier than I expected, more expensive initially but worth it in the long term

AAkim · 18/12/2021 21:57

I have some wuka and love them. Very comfy and secure. Worth the money.

idril · 18/12/2021 21:58

My daughter and I both have them but neither of us get why everyone seems to love them so much. It's just like wearing a sanitary towel for a really long time without the convenience of being able to quickly whip one out and replace with a clean one.

CaddieDawg · 18/12/2021 22:01

At first I just bought some cheap ones from Sainsbury's as I wasn't convinced enough to pay out for the big brands...but they are amazing. You feel much cleaner and fresher, and it's much less bulky than pads etc. I change twice in the day (or use reusable pad/tampon if really heavy) and then a fresh pair for bed on my first day or 2 when I'm heaviest flow, then one for day and one for night for the rest.

Queenoftheashes · 18/12/2021 22:05

I’m wearing primark ones and they’re fine, wore for a day and overnight. I’m quite light.

GemmaRuby · 18/12/2021 22:07

I have modi bodi ones… I wear them at night, much more comfy than disposable pads, but I prefer tampons in the day.

They were always perfect for me when I had fairly light periods, but since having a baby my periods have got heavier. They don’t leak but I find that when I go to the toilet there is a lot of wet blood on me that hasn’t soaked into the pad (sorry TMI).

So if you have heavy periods they may not last a full day… if you have light then they’ll be fine - one pair in the day, one overnight.

Dogmum40 · 18/12/2021 22:09

I’ve been using modibodi for a couple of years and I have regular flow periods.

I wear one in the daytime and change into another pair for bed!

They are a game changer for me as I caught toxic shock off tampons years ago and I actually have an allergy to pads so for 20 odd years my periods were miserable and usually led to a severe rash/infection around the inside of my thighs and from front to back where the pads start and finish! I used the cup for a couple of years before modibodi came out and still do now if I go on holiday/swimming but honestly try the underwear and you won’t ever go back to disposable sanitary items

ChiBox · 18/12/2021 22:09

I only use them at the end of my period and when im home. I prefer washable pads.

hopesndreams210310 · 18/12/2021 22:09

Wow thanks everyone!! Thats all super helpful thank you! X
I will look into all the brands mentioned above but think I'll definitely give them a try!

PinkFing · 18/12/2021 22:10

I don’t really understand them. Do you were them along side tampons or are they meant to catch all the blood etc? I think I must have crazy heavy periods because for a few days a tampon plus night pads is no way near enough. Thank god for pregnancy 🤣

purplesequins · 18/12/2021 22:11

I need to use pads for the first couple of days. need to change night time size ones every 1-2 hours.
once it's lighter the period pants are great and keep me without leakage. as pp, change mornings and before bed.

kmbegs · 18/12/2021 22:11

Check out 'cheeky wipes' very reasonably priced and I find them just as good as my thinx ones which are about three times the price. You can buy different pairs depending on your flow. I absolutely love them, couldn't go back. Just put a pair on in the morning, change at night. You need to rinse them out but you get used to that. Give them a go!

OhThatChicken · 18/12/2021 22:13

I've tried the cheap Primark ones but found they just weren't high enough in the body to feel comfortable.

But I can't work out if I spent more if I'd find a more comfortable version.

NavigatingAdolescence · 18/12/2021 22:15

DD uses the cheekywipes ones. She puts a reusable pad in them in the morning and removes at lunchtime so is fresh without needing to change pants.

BlingLoving · 18/12/2021 22:16

I think they are the greatest invention to help women since the washing machine. I absolutely bloody love mine. My period can be quite heavy with some flooding for up to 36 hours so I have now invested in 3 pairs of modibodi’s most absorbent ones. I might still have to change it during the day - especially if flooding - and if I am out for a day I would probably wear it with a pad or tampon first, but they have been a game changer for me in terms of comfort and leaking. Especially since I accepted that I needed the most hardcore ones for at least a day. I also have the super absorbent shorts for night.

Incidentally, modibodi has a useful quiz you can take to see which ones are best for you.

driftcompatible · 18/12/2021 22:16

Yes I use them and love them but I have a very heavy flow and wouldn't use them alone. I use with a menstral cup. For me it's a great combination. The period pants give me real peace of mind.
