Hi all!

Just that really, looking into Wuka's reusable period pants and just wondering if anyone uses them, how they work (do you have to keep changing pants through the day?) and if they would recommend?

Thanks! Xx

Incidentally, to clarify, I also have lighter ones but the three pairs of the super absorbent ones get me through the crazy days.

nordica · 18/12/2021 22:20

Yes but only at the start and end for lighter days when I can wear them for the whole day. For the rest of the time I use reusable pads.

The pants are great for the first day or two when you know you're about to start. Mine are Wuka ones and they are really comfortable.

Starcaller · 18/12/2021 22:22

Love love love mine! I have Cheeky Wipes ones and they've been great. I've gradually added more pairs over time but I usually wear a couple during the day depending on flow and then a fresh pair overnight.

Reusable pads are much nicer than disposable too if you wanted to double up. So much gentler and don't have that horrid smell.

espresso14 · 18/12/2021 22:27

I used the Sainsbury's ones, I only have 3 pairs currently, could do with a 4th. For first day, possibly 2nd, I need 2 pairs in day and then one at night, but very quickly I can move to one in day and one at night.

summertimerolls · 18/12/2021 22:28

Use them as back up in days 1-3 of my insane period where tampons aren't enough if I want to leave the house for more than an hour, and they're brilliant. Haven't used them alone though

summertimerolls · 18/12/2021 22:28

To add, mine are Wuka

sofakingcool · 18/12/2021 22:28

I discovered them a few months ago and wish I'd found them years ago (if they existed then!)

I don't use them alone, but they are amazing at dealing with flooding. I just have the cheap primark ones which are great. Haven't tried them without a pad/tampon but no complaints here. I could do with a couple more so going to shop around for other brands

Voice0fReason · 18/12/2021 22:30

I have the Primark ones. I mainly use a mooncup so these are a perfect backup on heavy days. I never have to worry about leaking.
They are also great for light to moderate days on their own. I don't have to change them at all during the day.

WLAH · 18/12/2021 23:11

I use mobibodi too on not so heavy days. Havent trusted them 100% on heavy days unless around home

For those that use reusable pads any recommendations?

CallMeNutribullet · 18/12/2021 23:53

So for people who are changing during the day. Are you completely changing knickers at home/school then carrying the soiled ones around with you?

metalkprettyoneday · 19/12/2021 00:00

Modibodi ! I use them instead of pads and tampons - I wish they’d been around when I was younger - nearly coming to the end of my period days. So much more comfortable and I like that I’m not creating waste with all that packaging etc. I feel secure too, they don’t dislodge and get twisted around. They seem really absorbent too . I started with 2 pairs to see if I liked them

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 19/12/2021 08:08

@callmenutribullet I haven't had to change whilst out and about, as I said up thread if it's a heavy day I use a pad with them in the morning, then remove the pad when required and then the pants are fine for the rest of the day. I tend to change them when I get home and before bed or just keep them for out and about and use reusable pads when lounging around at home.

But if you did need to change then it's no different to carrying reusable pads with you (which I did before moving over to the pants) pop them in the bag they came in or in a makeup bag, you can't smell them.

Verbena87 · 19/12/2021 08:17

I use modibodi pants overnight and in the days when my period is due just in case.

They get a bit damp/uncomfy by the end of a whole day so I either do washable pads (the bloom and Nora ones are comfiest for me, the kind where the wings extend straight off the side of the pads rather than being tucked under the binding round the edge seem to chafe my thighs), or washable pad inside modibodis and whip the pad off at lunch.

In terms of carrying used pads, you just get a wet bag like for washable nappies. Bloom and Nora do a good one with two sections so you can separate and carry clean and used in the same bag.

I prefer a cup (deffo worth a try if you haven’t) but since birth injuries my vagina is the wrong shape so have had to switch.

Panacotta · 19/12/2021 08:23

Modi bodi rinse clear in the shower & pop in the wash.

One in the day / maybe two on a heavy day
One at night.
Better dried on the line outside but the heated airer is fine.
I wear the huge ones for heavy flo.

Totally worth the money. I have about 6 pairs now I think. Just buy one every now & then. The more you have in rotation, the longer they will last.

penniesdimesapplespears · 19/12/2021 08:24

I don't think they are very hygienic (wearing wet bloody underwear all day 🤮 ) plus they only last about 20 washes or similar.

They aren't wet. That's the point. They wick the moisture away.

Your blood isn't dirty you know.

DaisyWaldron · 19/12/2021 08:34

I use Modibodi and would never go back to anything else. My periods are heavy - I'm hitting perimenopause, and for the past couple of years I've had a day each period where I'd have to empty a mooncup every 2-3 hours, or change a pad or tampon every 1-2 hours, but I can get away with a pair of heavy flow pants from when I get dressed to when I come home from work. And I can get a full night's sleep without having to get up in the middle of the night to change pads, and the sheets are still clean in the morning! I don't use them with anything else - I just put on the pants and go. They have been absolutely life-changing.

Ifeellikedancing · 19/12/2021 08:38

I have some wuka, some modibodi. The wuka are better quality in my opinion. Honestly the best things I have ever bought. I hate wearing tampons since I had my son and don't like pads either. The pants are comfy and absorbent.

Verbena87 · 19/12/2021 08:44

Also yes definitely need to rinse til water runs clear before washing in my opinion.

Shroedy · 19/12/2021 08:52

I've never used them by themselves, other than when my period has to all intents and purposes stopped, as I can have really heavy periods (almost meant I had to have an iron transfusion heavy) but I wear them with pads / tampons during my period as back up. They've changed my life during those days with the peace of mind they give me and the fact I'm not constantly worrying and paranoid when out and about. Highly recommend them!

Tittie · 19/12/2021 13:11

I've got some from three different brands and I love them. They're comfy and I wish they'd existed when I was a teen. On lighter days I use them on their own, and on heavy days, I use them as backup for a cup.

The ones I have are:

M&S: my favourite by far as they look and feel like normal pants. They're quite thin, high waisted with a nice detail on the hem. They weren't cheap at £12 each though

Cheeky wipes: very absorbent and their customer service is good - send over some info about yourself and they recommend what's best for you. But the pants are a funny material, I do feel a bit like I'm in training pants

Floweret: cheap, when on offer I managed to get 6 for £30 or so. But they're not a particularly flattering style and look kind of misshapen after a few washes.

How often they need changing depends on how heavy your flow is and personal preference. I think some brands recommend changing at least every 12 hours.

rifling · 19/12/2021 13:16

On heavy days at work I wear a tampon too in the morning so I don't have to change pants. At home I change pants! I also wear them a lot on non-period days as bding perimenopsusal my period tends to surprise me! I feel safer if I am wearing them when I'm teaching and can't run out to the loo.

1990s · 19/12/2021 13:17

I was also a bit confused and doubtful until I read an article about them and decided to give them a go.

They are brilliant! I'd say I have medium flow, wear one pair all day and then a new one at night. So much more comfortable, can't believe I was throwing away all those plastic towels.

I have some modi bodi, some WUKA, some M&S. I think what you prefer depends on how you like your pants to fit!

1990s · 19/12/2021 13:19

Menstrual blood isn't dirty.

But to reassure you they are never wet, it all becomes absorbed. Better than traditional pads in my experience! Sometimes if heavy it would "sit' on the top.

Haven't seen anything saying they last 20 washes....

Fudgeytastic · 19/12/2021 13:30

If these pants are black how do you see /tell how heavy your flow is?
