Hurrah and Hallelujah. My uterus has been given an eviction notice!

30 years of being a complete bitch. Let me down twice (miscarriage and ectopic). Did what it should do twice (2 grown up DDs). Never officially diagnosed with anything but suggestions have been PCOS and endometriosis. 30 solid years of hideous periods. 30 years of being fobbed off by assorted GPs who told me it was normal to faint, vomit, incapacitate and take over my life for one out of every three or four weeks.
It’s got to the point where my cycles are just 18-20 days long, I bleed huge amounts for 5 days (emptying cup every 2 hours), overflowing, clots. Light bleeding on and off for a further 4 days. Bleeding on and off randomly mid-cycle. Puking and dizzy. Period diarrhoea, excruciating, labour style pain. Another 3 days of pain while i ovulate plus bleeding then too.
Tried everything. Mirena - I bled for 8 months then it fell out. Painfully. Pill - unhinged. Drugs - I’m allergic to the good ones and the others don’t work so well. Herbs, flowers, tea, homeopathy, diet - all bollox.

Finally saw a Dr who actually listened and agreed to whip the bugger out. Not sure how yet as apparently it's ‘bulky’ (like the rest of me) so need a scan to see how big it is. Also waiting on smear results and endometrial biopsy (which hurt like a bastard and is still hurting 4 days later).

Appin. Yes. I think it’s very sensible to take the husband. And write lists of questions and information.

Gin urgh. See what happens and hopefully it’ll be out of you by then.
How are you feeling about it?

I don't think I'll be poorly again now. I feel ok. I'll just have a day off food today to let my system rest.

I'm looking forward to getting it over with if that makes sense? I'm in limbo just now and once it's done I can work on getting better.

Did you go out yesterday? How are you feeling today?

Beanfield · 08/12/2018 07:54

Yesterday was good. Went shopping, baked, pottered as normal up to evening when I got a bit tired. I’ve woken up a bit achy today so probably will do very little.

Hi I have just been told about this post. I had my total hystorectomy with my tubes removed but kept my overies nearly 4 weeks ago.
My recovery so far has been up and down I had post op issues due to the catheter and have a wee infection in belly button incision which is being treated with antibiotics.
In general I feel much better than I expected and than before my operation. I am still really tired but I have been informed that is due to me doing more than I should be.
I have some questions about whether anyone has had any issues with their work being not very understanding about recovery period? I work in retail and my manager is being a bit of an a**hole. Apparently there are many people who have been back at work 3 days after a hystorectomy is this true a d i am just being lazy?

MerryGinmas · 10/12/2018 14:02

I'm out of surgery 🥂 I've been told 6 weeks off X

MerryGinmas · 11/12/2018 07:08

@beanfield how much did you bleed after? I've just had my packing removed an hour is ago and I got up this try and get changed. I thought I'd wet myself as the catheter is now out but it was blood. I'm on blood thinners so that is most probably why but just thought I'd check.

I'm finding it difficult to move around as my larger incision is very sore. I should be going home this afternoon

Wooferz · 11/12/2018 08:17

Hurrah Gin! It is done. How are you today? I’m sorry I gotta the day wrong and was thinking it was monday today. Have you got any of that evil shoulder pain?

Ive had virtually no bleeding. No packing afterwards and just a little bit in the day afterwards. And then nothing until a day 9 and now i have a bit of gunky spottying - dr google said this is normal. My belly button hole is a bit gunky on and off too.

Loppey - there’s always some people who claim to be unaffected by surgery/ illness in a weird attempt to make themselves feel better than you for carrying on working. And your boss is being an arse. How long has the Doctor (you know - the one with the medical qualification and years of training and experience) signed you off for? BEcause that is the bit that counts, not what your boss thinks.

I’m signed off for 8 weeks but my job is v long shifts and quite physical and I’ll need to be absolutely capable before i try to go back. (Although I’m fairly sure i’ll Be up to it before then but i’ll Take the time as i’ll Never get such a chunk off again)

Beanfield · 11/12/2018 08:18

Sorry. That’s a temp name change mistake.

I'm flooding when I stand up. Maybe it's the blood thinners. I've managed a wee and changed my pad so they can see how much I'm losing

AutumnCrow · 11/12/2018 12:27

There’s always the ones who were up and cleaning the bathroom the day after having their head amputated

Round of applause for @Beanfield Grin

jessstan2 · 11/12/2018 12:30

You are now a new woman! Congrats Flowers Wine

Loppeyloo · 11/12/2018 13:15

@Wooferz doctor has signed me off till January 7th which is 7 weeks I do 8 hour shifts on Shop floor whole time. Manager suggested going on a checkout for a week as a way to recover I told the doctor this as I thought it would be easier just to give in and go back now she said sitting and lifting, stretching can cause just as much damage and no job is worth risking my recovery for. TBH as much as I feel less sore/ different sore than before my hystorectomy I feel absolutely tired and am still taking alot of painkillers.

@MerryGinmas i hope your surgery went well? I didn't bleed right after but did get a wee shock last week when I did thought I had ripped my stitches and went into a state of complete panic to be told that it is completely normal when stitches are desolving.

DeltaDelta · 11/12/2018 13:25

There’s always the ones who were up and cleaning the bathroom the day after having their head amputated

@Autumn, I second that round of applause for @Beanfield.

Also adding it to my memory bank of one liner crackers for suitable conversations later Grin.

mydogisthebest · 11/12/2018 13:29

Loppey, I went back to work after 5 weeks because I was absolutely fine to. I honestly think I could have gone back after 4 weeks. I was a secretary at the time so sitting a lot of the day although I did have an hour and a half commute each way (usually standing on the train).

I was only in my 30's though which obviously makes a difference. I don't know any other woman who has gone back to work any quicker, and after a couple of days I am sure is not true

Loppeyloo · 11/12/2018 13:37

Can I be sacked for being off sick?

MerryGinmas · 11/12/2018 14:14

@loppeyloo I really don't think so.

My physio tried to say 12 weeks 😳 I've said maybe 6 and I'll try and sit as much as possible. I'm being kept in another night as my oxygen levels aren't amazing, I'm still bleeding and I've had a few temp spikes.

Beanfield · 11/12/2018 17:16

Best place for you Gin. They also have the good drugs so take them.

MerryGinmas · 11/12/2018 17:32

I'm very much enjoying the oramorph 😂

AutumnCrow · 11/12/2018 17:34

Loppey If you're sacked for needing to recover from a hysterectomy for which you have medical certification, that would be wrongful dismissal as it's sex discrimination, if I remember the trade union guidance from my NATFHE days.

It would also cover you if you've worked there less than two years think, as it's wrongful dismissal not 'just' unfair dismissal.

You need to talk to HR.

Your work/manager sound crap uninformed.

Loppeyloo · 11/12/2018 18:07

@MerryGinmas oramorf is brilliant it makes the hospital stay bearable.

@AutumnCrow i have been with them less than 2 i also let her know about the op months in advance. The issue is working in retail and getting shift covered at this point I am more interested in the recovery than work.

MerryGinmas · 12/12/2018 17:14

I'm back at home now and I've managed to have a poo. It was not fun.

How long before it stops feeling like my vagina is going to fall out when I stand up? Hmm

My pain is improving but I'm still very sore, I just can't wait to be on the mend xxx

Loppeyloo · 12/12/2018 17:36

@MerryGinmas 3 weeks an I still get the fear when I stand up.

MerryGinmas · 12/12/2018 17:39

@loppeyloo don't tell me that!! 😂 I was hoping you'd say a few days..how is everyone today? I really underestimated how sore I would be immediately after. I can't feel the smaller lap incisions but the bigger one is very bruised. Dreading removing my dressings when dh gets back from getting DDs

AutumnCrow · 12/12/2018 18:30

Tbh honest it was quite few weeks before I was anywhere near 'normal' but a lot of it was the gas from the laparoscopic surgery.

Loppeyloo · 12/12/2018 18:41

@MerryGinmas TBH the last few days I have probably over done things thought I was awesome yesterday and done all the washing and cleaned the kids rooms which is probably why I have the fear. It was and still is the insision on belly button and right side they are disgusting looking but mine have the infections.
