Squirrel 🐿️ hiding behind curtains!

I live in a flat surrounded by trees and am use to the little critters occasionally running across the balcony.

I always open the doors onto the balcony first thing and somehow one has managed to get into the lounge and is now hiding behind the curtains (above the doors) and has been there since 6am. I left it in there and shut the door for half an hour hoping it would find its way out but with no luck and have tried to gently shoo it out, which did nothing apart from wind it up and make it angry at me, I then bravely got the broom and gently tapped the curtain, which resulted in it pooing everywhere!

Anybody got any good ideas? I really would like to use my lounge sometime today but am slightly frightened of it 😆

Panic over! I put my big girl pants on and managed to draw the curtains shut and bang them with a broom which made it run down the curtain and out the door - phew! Now just to clear up the mess 😄

We have them in the garden and they are quite feisty. They don’t run away when they see me and the dog they just chatter at us from the branches, as I guess they assume we are invading their territory.

They're awful. Brave too, and if they think there's food they'll keep coming back. They come into our garden and do not give a damn if we are there (or the cat). Hopefully this one won't do a repeat performance now it's had a good scare.

Thanks all! It was a feisty little bugger and only small, but was really chattering at me every time I tried to gently guide it with the broom handle. Dont want to be coping with that first thing in the morning again if I can help it 😁

Well done to you. We had a bird fly into our utility room through the back door from our garden and was trying to leave through the large window which was shut but it kept banging against it and poor thing was getting exhausted and pooing everywhere. It was just before I left to drop DC to school so early morning. I don’t like birds at the best of time and was trying to stay calm but just wanted it gone. 13 year old DD saved the day with the promise of the new tops she’d seen in H&M .

Oh I feel for you - I can imagine the mess and they’re frightening when they’re flying around panicked like that.

I’ve also had the bird/magpie brought in by a cat before, but fortunately I managed to get the cat in another room and it was so stunned it just sat there, allowing me to gently take it out in the garden. That I can just about cope with!

We have had all sorts in one time or another.

If you can get a cloth or tea towel over them it’s easier to gather them up and safely outside.

I accept this doesn’t work too well when they are shouting abuse at you from the top of a curtain rail 😀

Haha! It might be small and cute but it still looks damn threatening outside of its usual environment!

This happened to me a few weeks ago. Shut the doors and curtains so the room is as dark as possible. Then open the exit where you want the squirrel to run out of. The chink of light from the exit should direct the squirrel out if you disturb it with a broom again.

They are really vicious when cornered. Always keep your distance. Broom was a good idea.
