Concern tonight about the NT Arlington Court Barn Owl nest box

I don't know if anyone else has been watching this amazing pair of barn owls raising 8 (yes 8!) owlets for the past few weeks? They have been fantastic parents managing to keep all their brood fed well every single night.

They were featured on the BBC news a while back in fact.

The mum disappeared at 3.20pm today and hasn't come back which is very out of character.

The dad hasn't dropped any food in as yet, either. Usually would have by now. Two of the owlets are still quite small and can't feed themselves.

Any barn owl experts around who might have some words of wisdom or encouragement? What might the National Trust do if neither parent reappears?

It's very worrying!

Sorry I can't link to the live stream as it'll give away my YouTube login details. Very easily googleable though!

It looks like the parents are finally back, after giving everyone quite a scare!

Well hopefully more people will find the live feed now that I've posted about it. If anyone wants to chat here about the goings on in the box then please do!

Thank you for sharing this OP.
I am fascinated by owls (although not very knowledgeable) and will be looking for the live feed.

I guess they had to go further food today

You're very welcome @Branster I hope you find it ok, we can learn so much by watching them in the nest and we get a great view here.

Looks like they've had a lean night @EmeraldRoulette i think the rain hasn't helped. They usually bring in around 20 prey per night, so far only 6 according to the live chat.

Just to update- things are looking much more positive this evening!

Phew 😅
