Hedgehog awake and hungry

We’ve had hedgehogs on and off for years but last year added a hh house to the garden. It’s wedged behind the shed covered with a bit of old carpet, canes etc and we left straw and leaves near it hoping it would be used.
A couple of weeks ago we pointed a camera at it a lot and behold, it’s got a tenant! So pleased. As it’s been out and about I’ve left food and it appears to be ravenous so we’re serving up plenty of Google approved food. If we have a cold spell does anyone know if it’ll go back to bed?
So happy!

I think that they go in and out of hibernation.
I collect hogs for a local rescue.
This winter's weather has buggered them up. Hopefully you'll get baby hogs. They are adorable

@Mydogisagentlemanid love to see baby ones. Although I’ve seen adults over the years I’ve never seen their young.

So happy for you!

It would have to be a very cold snap to go back into hibernation now.

Be wary of trusting Google for food info, as it draws from all sources, not always good ones.

Here's the feeding advice from BHPS:

Enjoy your hoggie(s)!

I should add, plenty, more than you think, of fresh water.

That’s such a lovely post, would love hedgehogs in our garden (lots of deliberate gaps left for wildlife to come in and out to the wood that surrounds the bottom part of garden) but I think the visiting badgers mean it’s unlikely sadly. Enjoy ☺️

He (or she) has been coming every night at 7.30-8. So strange it’s so regular, it’s like he knows the time. Visits again several times during the night, last visit around 4-5am. It looks like the same one but obviously don’t know for sure.
Drinking a lot of water, and still eating lots.
I really hope it’s a permanent resident/visitor

What a lovely post thank you for sharing 🥰 I love hedgehogs. I haven’t seen one for years, and years, and years.

There’s two! Caught on camera feeding at the same time. Well at least 2 anyway, it’s impossible to say if the word is out that there’s a free buffet near my greenhouse, and we’re having numerous visitors or if they’re locals. I’d love to think it’s a pair and we might see hoglets. I’ve never seen one but that would be so lovely.

I have certainly noticed lots of hedgehog poo all over my garden, so at least one of them is awake and active.
