A gift for a reader. I think she'd like to go to a reading event or something

My mum's a big reader. She always buys me the booker prize shortlist for my birthday (and I wish I had time to read them ) and this is exactly the kind of thing she likes to read. Especially female writers I think, you know, family sagas a la Carol Shields, Margaret Forster...

Anyway, I seem to remember a couple of years ago she saw some sort of booker prize pre-reading thing, perhaps where members of the public got to have their say? Something like that?

Anyone know what I'm going on about?

Or any other gift suggestions for reader (given that she's read a lot more than me so I have no clue about actual books to buy her)?

actually just take her to Hay for a couple of days, when it is not the festival, with spending money (my idea of heaven, there are so many second hand book shops)

I would so love it if dh ever gifted me a day or two at the Hay festival. Considering my last birthday gift was a sewing machine (I don't sew ), I'm not holding my breath.

What a nice gesture for your mum

some friends once drove me to a second hand book fair , gave me spending money then left me alone before taking me for lunch
it was heaven

I would definitely second the Hay festival, it is a reader's dream. Unfortunately you have just missed it this year!
