Has anyone read it? Is it any good?

I came across it in the bookshop today and was laughing out loud at the first page but I didn't have the money to buy it right now.

Then I thought, I bet it is one of those books that is funny for about 5 pages and then becomes tedious. So, anyone got an opinion?

I didn't like it.

You're definitely right that it's an idea that soon runs out of steam, I only carried on to the end out of curiosity to see which bits had been altered/added to and which bits had been left alone.

Having said that, one of my friends read it and loved it...but she had never read the original, whereas I have and love it !

I definitely won't bother reading the other one..is it "Sense and sensibility and sea monsters" ? You could always get it out of the library if you didn't fancy wasting your money!

How funny that your friend liked it: I would have thought the enjoyment came from knowing the original book. Oh well, another few pounds saved then.

I loved it - AND S&S and Sea Monsters (Colonel Brandon with tentacles!).

And I am a massive JA fan, as you may be able to tell.

I so want an Elizabeth Bennett zombie slayer fancy dress costume.

I loved it!

I can't understand, though, how you would enjoy it if you hadn't read the original. IMO that's what makes it so funny.

DG - happy to lend you my copy if you want? CAT me with your address.

MrsDanversBites · 21/06/2010 11:52

interesting.

This is on my To Read List but I keep hesitating as although love P&P am just not that into zombies(!)

Also like DG, wondered if the joke wore thin after a bit?

You lot may have convinced me now tho

NicknameTaken · 21/06/2010 15:20

Yes, joke wears thin. Elizabeth makes a convincing kickboxer, but I hated what became of poor Charlotte.

I am reading it at the moment. Am a massive JA fan and it is amusing and I will certainly finish it (prob on the tube on the way home tonight!)

Although the editing is really shockingly bad and it's a teeny bit too Americanised as well. I probably wouldn't read another but it's been a nice change of pace for me.

If you like classics but also a bit of nonsense as well, then I'd give it a whirl!

Oo-er Colonel Brandon with tentacles. I have come over all peculiar.

BIWI, CAT sent.

Thanks all for your comments.
