Saramago has died

Such a shame, though not surprising given his age.

I've only recently started reading his books, Blindness and Seeing are fantastic, and I'm halfway through Death at Intervals.

Fantastic author.

yes feel quite bereft
as a Portuguese person also feel quite ashamed that he was so derided in his own country, his relationship with his homeland mirrors how I feel about it to be honest

long live his wonderful words

I never knew that sfxmum, I really must find out more about him. His books are so thought provoking, would be nice to know the context to them.

yes indeed mostly to do with religion when the Gospel came out, I have read him for many years and amusing fact, his daughter was once my biology teacher many years ago (I am old)

I love his writing and his translators are really amazing particularly the man who translated The Year of the death of Ricardo Reis' knowing the poetry some of the dialogue is based on makes me appreciate even more the wonderful work done by both

rief, just realised he was the author of "Baltasar and Blmunda" that I so enjoyed-anyone else enjoyed this book?

How sad. Blindness was amazing.
