im currently 23 pg, worried as hell because of history and few probs that have been flagged up .. i was hardly sleeping, and just spent the whole time on the net researching my various probs .. anyway, to cut a long story short - i picked up a book by jill mansell called falling for you and found myself getting engrossed, so much so that it kind of took my mind off everything -if only for for an hour at a time. have just finished it and although wasnt the best read i have experienced, it made me think .. perhaps i could read myself through this stressful pregnancy - going on mat leave soon, so will have lots of time on my hands, so would love any recs for books that you have not been able to put down, books that have momentarilly (sp?) taken you to a different world and made you forget your worries.. im open to anything - thanks in advance xxx

I came home in a bad mood from crappy work and had a blazing row with dp. I then took an Agatha Christie in the bath for an hour and have emerged in a much better frame of mind!

For books to keep you sane and stop you worrying I would say:

Jane Austen (but of course )
Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day
Some Forster - eg: Passage To India or Room With A View
Evelyn Waugh
Wodehouse for lightness
Any old faves from childhood - my favourites being Ballet Shoes, Charlotte Sometimes and Daddy Long Legs - also What Katy Did and Little Women.

George R. R. Martin :-D

Oh gosh, loads. I love lots of different stuff but those that I loved and couldn't wait to move onto the next one:

All of Harry Potter
All of Twilight Series
Anything by James Patterson
Virginia Andrews books
Cathy Kelly
Cecelia Aherne

I could go on... But I won't

Good luck!

one i just could not put down and couldnt wait to pick up, that emptied my head of all else, was The Gargoyle, by Andrew Davidson

i love it when you get so immersed in a book you just forget everything.

if a book doesnt grab me within the first 50 pages or so i usually give it up as a bad job!
