Would like to read this but I suspect I never will unless I'm pushed. Would it be any good for my book club (all female). Is there plenty to talk about?

fantastic book - great characters, v interesting structure, lots of practical lessons - a truly memorable read

LowLevelWhinging · 19/05/2010 21:11

Oh god yes, as jkklpu says.

And it was the first book that made me cry real tears. Not that it's sad or anything...

It is a fabulous book. Have read it numerous times.

However, it is a long book, so depends if you have issues with time (or non-finishers.

brilliant, and quite feminist ideas inside so good for a female group to discuss.

I read this last year after having it on my'to read ' shelf for 5 years! It is a fantastic read and my most memorable read in a long time-it stayed with me for ages afterwards and I didnt want it to end-but it is a lengthy read!

Yes, an engrossing story with plenty of themes to unpick.

It is v good - like lowlevelwhinign says it is sad. There is one scene in it that is almost unbearably moving.

I read it as a book club book -- forever grateful for being pushed to do so as it is excellent. Long, but very engrossing, so not a chore to finish. (DP also read it after listening to me enthuse, and he rarely reads fiction, but loved it too.)

janeite · 22/05/2010 22:21

I didn't finish it as it bored me sooooo much.

I know a couple of people who rave about it though.

I read this a few yeas ago - the funny thing is that lots of people have said how long it is - my recollection is that it wasn't very long at all - therefore I must have enjoyed it even more than I remember - and I remember that I did enjoy it.
