Two weeks without the usual distractions! What shall I read, what amazing books have i missed since DS was born a year ago? I can't be doing with horror or other grusome stuff, and I don't want to take hardbacks on the plane ;-)

janeite · 09/05/2010 18:50

I am reading Her Fearful Symmetry now and really enjoying it so far. DD1 has just read it though and says it gets really silly - I am hoping that she is wrong!

TheFoosa · 09/05/2010 20:15

You do have to suspend your disbelief and go with it but I really enjoyed it too

MayorNaze · 09/05/2010 20:18

do you want proper books? or holidy reads?

my best holiday reads are barbara taylor bradfords a woman of substance or rosamund pilchers coming home.

oldies but goodies

MayorNaze · 09/05/2010 20:19

oh that jilly cooper one about school is also a good holiday book...

strawberrylace · 09/05/2010 20:25

I highly recommend American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld - the best book I've read in ages...

PlumBumMum · 09/05/2010 20:28

One of my favourite books is Cinammon Wharf, it ticks all the boxes and would be a great holiday read.

paulaplumpbottom · 09/05/2010 22:45

I loved American Wife. Was a very good book.

stleger · 09/05/2010 23:00

I loved American Wife too!

CornishKK · 09/05/2010 23:05

A vote for Coming Home here!

Gone With The Wind and Far Pavillions are also great holiday reads and so long you only need to take one book.

tacticalfloosy · 09/05/2010 23:06

Got to be Wolf Hall if you haven't got to it yet (I haven't, can't wait for summer).

FritziGreenEyes · 24/05/2010 19:33

Victoria Hislop or maybe Anita Shreve?

Thediaryofanobody · 08/06/2010 16:33

The children's Book By A.S. Byatt would be my choice.

janeite · 08/06/2010 17:58

Her Fearful Symmetry had a very stupid ending - forgot to come back and say!

Tootiredforgodtyping · 08/06/2010 18:25

i'm back now and I loved wolf hall, the white queen, phillipa gregory, and mister pip. One day by davd nicholls was my fav though - brilliant book.
