Have you ever read a good book on 3 for 2?

I keep getting sucked in by the three for two offers when I go back to the UK to stock up on books.

I KNOW that I should just choose a few good books instead, but I can't resist.

I am currently reading "The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets" which was on 3 for 2 at the ferry terminal so blardy obvious it wasn't going to be great !

Have you ever actually read anything good on a 3 for 2?

All the time-I generally go for the special offers. At the moment I am reading Wolf Hall-I am fairly sure it was on 3 for 2.

Oh god, I am a 3 for 2 addict. I try and buy 2 'good' books to one bit of chick-lit trash, or a shoot 'em up for my DH.

Waterstones have a 3 for 2 with lots of Orange Prize past winners and 2010 nominees on at the moment, including the truly excellent We Need to Talk About Kevin, Purple Hibiscus and lots of stuff I've just bought and haven't read yet including Carol Shields Larry's Party and The White Woman on the Green Bicycle.

If you poke around the Classics and Fiction sections there's lots of other stuff on as well, not just the things on tables, I was tempted by Anna Karenina and some Ian McEwan novellas too on 3-4-2 last time I was in, but I was up to 6 books already!

Nelson Demille - the Gate House
I also tend to browse the "crime" section and the fiction section and usually find 2 from known and liked authors and 1 extra.

LOads in the 3 for 2, they just aren't latest releases doesnt mean they arent good ones.

MayorNaze · 13/05/2010 11:55

oh all the time! and i liked the lost art of keeping secrets
last 3-2 i did was american wife, the little stranger and something else i can't remember...

MayorNaze · 13/05/2010 11:56

oh oh julie walters bio, that was the third one

brimfull · 13/05/2010 11:57

I find it cheaper to get books second hand from amazon
although regularly succumb to 3for2 offers

actually had planned on having a book cull

MayorNaze · 13/05/2010 12:03

i try to go in waterstones only when i have to buy presents or have vouchers. i have to physically avert my eyes from the shelves, esp 3-2 section...agree amazon usually best bet but the thrill of actually buying new books...aaaaahhhhhh...new books....

TheFoosa · 13/05/2010 13:35

Completely agree with you Mayornaze, nothing beats mooching in Waterstones, even getting an Amazon parcel with all those cut price books inside doesn't deliver the same thrill ime

My DH has just written a book called Pregnancy for Men - The Whole Nine Months - its out this week and is a 3 for 2 in Waterstones right now... its a bargain, and a jolly good book for first time dads too (if i say so myself!) - funny; lots of swearing; but not laddy. x
