The last good book I read was "The Guardian" and even that wasn't realy that gripping.

I need a book that will keep me engrossed.

I loved Twilight so thought I'd try True Blood but I'm just not "getting it", It's not pulling me in at all. Is it worth pursuing?

Am thinking of starting the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ... any good?

False Memory?

Everybody I know who has read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo loved it. I however hated it and couldn't get past the first 30 pages... So I guess give it a go would be my suggestion!

TheFoosa · 14/04/2010 09:31

I hated the girl/dragon/etc also

I have just finished re-reading Small Island, had forgotten how good it was

read The Help by Katherine Stockart ( i think) very good

itsybitsy08 · 14/04/2010 09:36

Girl with a dragon tattoo is brill! Give it a chance and youll really get into it me thinks! And then there is the follow on books so you get three grippers!

Prosecco · 14/04/2010 09:38

I also have the girl/dragon book. The cover reads as if it is right up my street but I am also struggling to get past the start.

What types of books/authors do you like?

Portofino · 14/04/2010 09:40

I've just read "One Day" - which I totally loved though it made me cry!

And "The Road Home" which I probably wouldn't have chosen myself, but it is this month's book club selection. I enjoyed that too. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is next on the shelf.

From less "arty" point of view I also read recently "The Broken Window" by Jeffrey Deaver - a thriller. I was totally engrossed.

Prosecco · 14/04/2010 09:43

I also loved One Day- and all of Jeffrey Deaver's books. Thay are great!

itsybitsy08 · 14/04/2010 11:28

Prosecco i felt like that at first with the girl with the dragon tattoo, but if you persevere just a little more it becomes a real page turner! I kept on at it because my brother was saying how crap it was and i love to prove him wrong - and i did! It was brill!

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 14/04/2010 11:31

I've got it open at about page 10 and have done for weeks - I just can't get into it. Glad to hear it's worth persevering with.

Bucharest · 14/04/2010 11:32

Just finished One Day here too!

I might try Jeffrey Deaver, I like a bit of gore.

I've just ordered the One Day man's other books, and also John O Farrell's latest.

deaddei · 14/04/2010 11:33

Keep going with Dragon Tattoo- the first 30 pages set the (complicated) scene but I loved it.
2nd The Help.
I have just taken 180 books to the charity shop- still have over 1000 on my shelves, but only 12 I haven't read.

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 11:34

american wife
hearts and minds was ok - bit preacy

curlyboff · 14/04/2010 11:36

I found the Dexter Series Of Books (which the tv series was based on) to be very interesting, quite dark but very good. Also have you tried Dan Brown? The Da Vinci Code Set (which actually starts at angles and demons) was a fantastic read too

MayorNaze · 14/04/2010 11:39

not read dragon tattoo yet...

if you like twilight try anything by kelley armstrong - not exactly hard core lit but a good read IMO

mattellie · 15/04/2010 14:29

Ditto the Vampire Diaries series of books by LJ Smith but if you?ve seen any of the TV series be warned that the books are much darker?

Pagasvlei · 18/04/2010 11:24

Nichols Sparks has written 10 books; all excellent reading for those quieter moments.
"Message in a Bottle" was made into a very good movie as was "Night in Rodanthe"
Try Amazon; they have them all.
