I am halfway through this book and am struggling! Should I keep going? Picked it as it reviewers on CH4's new book club all seemed to enjoy it but now wondering about their selections as I read Nick Hornby's Juliet,Naked and struggled with that too!! Anyone else disapointed with the books selected for this programme?

I liked Nick Hornby ok. Go out and buy The Last Child by John Hart it's a beautifully written thriller.

I persevered til the end but it was a drag tbh. I thought it was exactly my thing - italian, oppressed women etc etc, but it is lacking in something.

I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as Birth of Venus and Company of the Courtesan - suspect that it was the 3rd book of a 3-book-deal and she had lost interest/ As moulesfrites said it should be great but is lacking in something.

Hurrah - I finally got to the end last night!! Going to buy The Last Child as recommended above.
Anyone read any of the other books selected on CH4's bookclub?

I've read them all. I loved Sacred Hearts and Cutting for Stone most, and thought Blacklands and The Silver Linings Play Book were worth reading but not as good as the rest. However, as clearly you didn't enjoy Sacred Hearts I'm probably not the best person to recommend which of the others you might like.

Generally I thought the books chosen for the programme were much better than the programme.
