Anyone else reading/read it?
I've been listening to it on Book at Bedtime so am only halfway into it.

I really didn't like Saturday either. I guess because it was all in one day, I found it so boring when he was going into recipes and the ins and outs of a game of squash etc. I was really disappointed too as had been looking forward to a new Ian McEwan book.
He redeemed himself with Chesil Beach though (I think).
And I am quite enjoying this one.
You might be annoyed about the job/research/highbrow theme in this though - as you're exactly right. There was a physicist on the radio the other day saying that it's true that scientists are getting quite excited about artificial photosynthesis just now.

I did really like Chesil Beach. It's short though.
I might not have bothered with Solar, it's just I noticed it's book at bedtime.

Book at bedtime - on offer with the Times ....I wonder if sales haven't been as expected.

I always like to pop up on the MN-McEwan-bashing threads to say;

I like his writing.

Hear hear Cadelaide
Never read one of his I didn't like (except Child in Time which makes me shudder with fear even now)

SOLAR - has been awarded a quirky lit prize given to a novel thought to have captured the "comic spirit of P G Wodehouse". As part of the award a pig will be renamed Solar at the Hay Festival!
Anyone enjoy Solar enough to recommend?
