Robin Hobb - her books are amazing!

squilly · 11/03/2010 20:52

Seconding the Robin Hobb. Also adding Cornelia Funke (Inkheart trilogy), if you like younger stories. Also loving Jasper Fforde for something a little off the beaten track (Just read shades of grey which was unusual and rather interesting). On a pure fantasy theme, love Patrick Rothfuss, but he's only done one installment of the trilogy so far. Tis good though.

How about Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere is a particularly good book it about a secret underground/alternative London.

Forgot about Neil Gaiman. Love him. Loved Neverwhere.

smallblackflowers · 13/03/2010 13:45

I second Neil Gaiman too - loved American Gods and Anansi Boys, fantasy and humour, brilliant.

Philip Reeves' 'Mortal Engines' series.

Inkheart series.

The Knife Of Never Letting Go - think it's by Patrick somebody. There is a sequel but I haven't read it yet.

Willima somebody or other - Windsinger series.
