I was oone of those sad people who went out at midnight and bought the book, Have now read it and oh my god. I actually cried!!! I can't believe the betrayal I really can't! I'm gutted

hunkermunker · 17/07/2005 21:12

It's Harry then?!

alexsmum · 17/07/2005 21:19

just finished reading it and had to sit in stunned silence for a few minutes.now feel very sad and look like this

want the next book NOW.
happymerryberries-that is good-makes sense and would make me feel better!

leonardodavinci · 17/07/2005 21:31

do you mind me asking how many hours you read it and how much time in Saturday and Sunday you spent reading it. Please be truthful

leonardodavinci · 17/07/2005 21:38

700 pages at 50 pages an hour from 8am Saturday, unless you have not had to lookk afte children I can't se it possible. Now own up please.

leonardodavinci · 17/07/2005 21:43

how much time have you spent with your kids in this time?

leonardodavinci · 17/07/2005 21:53

I know that I could not spend 7 hours a day reading and if I did I would get it in the neck, fair so, still curious.

happymerryberries · 17/07/2005 21:53

I read it, and we went camping as a family this weekend!

Dh picked it up for me at 11. I read it on and off in the day....kids were on their bikes with friends children. We had a BBQ in the evening and went out.

Spent the morning with the kids/packing away the tent. Did some shopping for food en famile. Kids watched Cat in the Hat and I finished it then, with them in the same room.

I read a lot faster than 50 pages an hour. I don't read all of every word, and will re-read it when I have more time!

Oh and I read the first two chapters to dd

leonardodavinci · 17/07/2005 21:59

sorry but 700 pages in 36 hours very hard to do I find it hard to read 80 pages in a dya when I have children to care for. Alexsmum how much time did you spend with your children here as would love to know how I couold read this that quickly.

alexsmum · 17/07/2005 22:01

50 pages an hour? and the rest!!!!
my children were definitely not neglected!
its not that long a book.and as it's a childrens book it's easy to read.
we're not talking war and peace here.

charleepeters · 17/07/2005 22:01

i have so far read all the harry Potters the day they came out, i love them i havent got the new one yet as im skint, but they only take me a day to read thats non stop reading - but most books do im a complete book worm once i get going

leonardodavinci · 17/07/2005 22:06

so how many pages do you read an hour. Not being thick here but couldn't read this in a day.

SleepyJess · 17/07/2005 22:07

I am desperate to just sit and read it.. but I just can't Am on chapter 4.. but sadly have to keep stopping to see to the kids, do a bit of study.. make conversations with family members.. aargh the hardship! I can't imagine how anyone with at least one child that they are needing to care for can have finished it already.. but respect to you anyway.. (as was said below! ).. and I am obviously just jealous!

I read on the loo, in the bath, when I get to bed (just a chapter or so as I am tired when I finally get to bed).. and when I am straightening my hair. Don't get any other 'me' time but am about to find out if it's possible to read and iron... I need some kind of music stand or something.. seriously!!

SJ x

ScummyMummy · 17/07/2005 22:07

I started it at 7pm Sat finished at 12.30am Sat. Kids in bed whole way thru ta very much, leonardo!

SleepyJess · 17/07/2005 22:09

I wouldn't want to read it in a day.. a lot would be scan-read surely.. and I like to savour every word JK writes! I am a fast reader I think.. but only used to manage 1 Mills and Boon per day (years ago!!) when I had nowt to but sit on my a*se and wish I had a love life!

charleepeters · 17/07/2005 22:10

Its differet each book as there all different lengths, the first 3 were quite easy the last 2 too a bit longer but bear in mind i didnt have DS then so i wont be reading this one in one day unless i can get my DM to have him, i have no idea how many pages i read in an hour i have never really taken any notice but i read very quickly froma young age. but like i said its different now i have ds! i will pobsbly read it in one night as i wont beable to put it down

ScummyMummy · 17/07/2005 22:10

Doh! 12.30am would be Sun not Sat, now i think of it.

happymerryberries · 17/07/2005 22:11

I can read a 'readable' IYSWIM 200-250 book in about 2 hours I suppose. I'm not that sure how many pages an hour I can put in.

I read 'hard' books more slowly!

I used to have to scan scientific journals for a living and it made my already fast reading faster still. As I said I don't read every word or all of every word. dd (at 8) is just like me and I think this helps to explain why we are both so crap at spelling.

I also read for pleasure about an hour every day...last day I missed was when I was in labour with dd over 8 years ago!

fqueenzebra · 17/07/2005 22:12

Why don't you guys start a "spoilers" thread? I have no time to read the book, but am keen to read the juicy summaries...

charleepeters · 17/07/2005 22:13

i spend most the night reading a different book, i have always been a reader i used to put myself to bed at 6pm when i was younger to read my way through the famous five collection

SleepyJess · 17/07/2005 22:14

There arealready a couple Zebra..

alexsmum · 17/07/2005 22:14

don't count how many pages i do in an hour.
read some in bed, some on the loo, some while sitting in the garden....
really resent the implication that because i have read it already that my children have been neglected

bea · 17/07/2005 22:15

finished it today in between getting the kids their tea... and taking every opportunity to dissappear and read!!!

i was gobsmacked and am very intrugued with the ending.... agreen with happymerryberries... i hope so anyway!!!!

leonardodavinci · 17/07/2005 22:17

sorry Alexsmum it's just that 700 pages in 36 hours is a lot to read. It takes me 2 hours to read 100 pages of normal books and like with mant things after a while your brain needs a break from ingesting so much information, so 700 pages couldn't be over 1 day am sorry but unless you skipped bits it isn't possible. Unless you were reading non stop and dh was looking after the children.

bea · 17/07/2005 22:18

hee hee! i got mine at about 10am sat morning (amazon... thank you!) and dh was talking the kids out so i got about 2 ghours worth of reading there, then i read from 7pm till about 11:00 and have read on and off all day today... and hee hee... my kids have had to put up with dh most of the time... allthough ds is goign thrugh a little clingy stage at the moment and i had to keep darting into other rooms but he would always find me!!!!
