I've read this .... was okay but I found myself frequently having to suspend my belief as everything seemed to fall into place a little too easily for her. For those who haven't read it, I think she had 5 or 6 kids and managed to convince her very gullible husband to look after them while she was supposedly doing evening office work ! He apparently accepted this without any questions at all.

Since reading it I have read 2 or 3 articles in papers and maagzines which claim much of it, if not all, is fictional. The woman in question has apparently left a string of debts behind her, not least the school fees she purported to be paying by prostituting herself ... and was reported as not being very popular all round.

I read it in about 2-3 hours then wished I hadn't bothered to spend the £6.99 or whatever.

oooh I have it beside my bed for ages but never get a chance to read but will pick it up in the next couple of days

Thanks for that catsmother. I did wonder whether it really was true or whether 'she' was a journalist jumping on the Belle Du Jour bandwagon. OK, I'll wait until it turns up at second hand book stalls, it's £10 in Waterstones, £6 on Amazon so I'll wait.

Oooh at last !!! yes I read it !!

I just don't get it though...6 children ? sending them to private school, GAP clothes, riding/ballet lessons etc etc??. She said she didn't want her children wearing second hand clothes...why ever not ? Rather that that become a prostitute. Of course she/they were £k's in debt, but every little bit helps.

However, she was sexually abused, so I think all 'normality' went out the window & she tried to recreate what she considered the perfect childhood.

I don't think it's well written & I don't think she is 'intelligent & witty' as described on the back cover. I did read it very fast though & was glad that she manages to bury her ghosts.

I'm interested in the effect this has on her children though, when they find out what she did....

I did write to her too - she replied & said I was fortunate not to be in the same position - I don't think it's fortunate, I think it's being sensible

Interesting. Wrote the books to pay the school fees....only she didn't - 2 school suing..... convicted for serious benefit fraud...... did it to pay the rent on the house to keep the kids in situ..... only she didn't - to get out of that particular court hearing she cried rape and was convicted for wasting police time..... load of cobblers. Wanted a lifestyle she couldn't afford. Wiling to do anything to have it. End of.
