A translation from the French original by Muriel Barbary and has been serialised on radio 4 - what a great book, I enjoyed this so much. The story of Renee, the concierge in a Parisian apartment block who has a secret life as an intellectual and her relationships with others in the block.Thoroughly recommended to read before the nights draw out!

Ooh good, I've just bought this and started tentative inroads - looks fascinating, I studied existentialist French lit at Uni and like anything a bit off the beaten track.

I've read it too - really enjoyable! I've started on an Alice Hoffmann one now that I've finished it, slightly different kind of tone to the whole thing but quite a similar vibe in some ways as well

Yes, I really like this too! I picked it up in Waterstsones without knowing anything about, and was very pleasantly suprised.
