Good Oxfam/charity shops with books, or second hand bookshops near the centre of London?

does anyone know?
Just to be clear, I am after cheap books, not antiquarian, or interesting specialist books. Ideal would be a long street filled with charity shops, and good second hand bookshops!

Charing Cross road has second-hand bookshops and there's an Oxfam bookshop in Drury Lane. Also, there's a second-hand book market held on the Southbank, near the BFI. It's definitely there on Sundays, but could also be there on Fridays and Saturdays - not sure

My memories of Charing Cross road are that it's the place to go if you want a book on fly fishing rather than a Mills and Boon, but maybe I am wrong?

Just thought: anywhere with some African literature would be interesting, too.

Skoob Books in the Brunswick Centre by Russell Sq tube nice collection and they do a stand at the farmer's market there on Saturdays.
I got a copy of Wolf Hall not long after it came out for £9

There is an Oxfam book shop on Marylebone High Street - it's really good, and you can go and have a look at Daunt too while you're there - lovely ceiling, or there is the Book Exchange by Notting Hill tube.

Any Amount of Books is the best one left on Charing Cross Road for cheap books - none of the secondhand shops have that much Mills and Boon but sometimes the secondhand shops have a few chicklit titles if those appeal - and sometimes they're quite cheap because that's not what they do.

I've bought lots in the past from the Notting Hill Book exchange, and there are also several charity shops there and just a walk or short bus journey away in Kensington High Street.

There is a street with several charity shops on it just off Tottenham Court Road, near Goodge Street tube, including Oxfam. Oxfam also has a central London bookshop in Bloomsbury. They have a store finder on their website.

Camden High Street at the southern end betweeen Mornington Crescent and Camden Town tube is another, and if you walk up there from Euston station there's an Amnesty International charity bookshop on Eversholt Street.

Charing Cross Road is just very specialist and expensive (and sadly these are closing at a rate of knots)

Oxfams are good, and 'Fopp' has a surprising amount of good (mostly modern) fiction and an amazing range of factual books dirt cheap.

There's lots of charity shops near Golders Green tube station, if that's not too far out. Foyles on Charing Cross road does have some shelves of half price books.

Looks like I will be doing an Oxfam shop crawl around north London on my flying visit to the UK then, and hope to pick up some commercial womens fiction, plus a few classics. The classics are easier to get cheaply in Germany though.

Great thread - I work round the corner from Drury Lane and had no idea there was an Oxfam bookshop there. Shall be checking it out soon

If you're visiting north London there's a good Oxfam bookshop in Crouch End on Park Road, but it's not that near the tube (41 bus from Turnpike Lane or Archway, or the W7 from Finsbury Park towards Muswell Hill will take you closest).

St John's Wood High Street - one stop on Jubilee line from Baker St. Several charity shops including an Oxfam with a separate book shop.

thank you all - I ended up going to the Oxfam shop on Marylebone HS, and the British Heart Foundation at Swiss Cottage. Tried the StJWood one, it was closed.
Bought a LOT of books.
