Twilight - if you can call it adult fiction....

OK, I admit it, I have just read the first book in a couple of days. I only bought it and read it to be one step ahead of the game with regards to my dd reading it, but now I am hooked.

BUT

I'm sorry Twi-sluts Anonymous, it really is utter drivel. Hopeless plot, infantile language, bleeding obvious solution.

Still can't wait to get stuck into New Moon though. Off to see if my little town stocks it. Hoping to find it in a charity shop.

He can catch my apple any time he wants

TheMysticMasseuse · 27/02/2010 18:22

he also breathes really expressively in many scenes, does a little snort that's heavy with meaning (most notable example in the prom scene but also in the "say it. Out loud" bit)

Oh god. I have watched Twilight too many times.

Dumbledoresgirl · 27/02/2010 18:24

LOL you lot, you are obsessed! Well, I have watched the end of the film - what a pile of shite interesting scenes.

I think it is perfectly ok to fancy anyone of any age (above legal minimum). I don't know how old you lot are or how old your fancies are, but I currently have the hots for a man I am old enough to have brought into this world - who cares? As Mystic says, it brightens a dreary winter.

I didn't know that about RP's leg. Can you account for his arms held woodenly by his sides now TE?

The film as a stand-alone film is passable. The film as an adaptation of the book is dreadful. The screenwriter did an awful job (admittedly the base material is hardly Booker worthy but she added in random scenes that added nothing), the only thing the director got right was the casting (KStew's acting grew on me in the second film, and she's otherwise a pretty good actress, so I assume she was given bad direction in Twilight). And kudos to Billy Burke - one of the best performances in the film IMHO.

Of course I have had to watch it at least 6 times to draw these conclusions .

MINI-SPOILER (FILM) The second film I thought was better - and truer to the book. I thought the 'chase' scene with Victoria was fantastic (though not directly from the book). And Michael Sheen was in it.

I'm looking forward to seeing what David Slade does with the third. The ending should be good, given his previous work, but be interesting to see how he deals with the romance, the tent scene etc.

dreamworldfullofUNICORNS · 27/02/2010 23:25

don't forget the BED SCENE! I can't wait to see what they have done with the bed scene, the stills leave me with goosebumps!!!

Dumbledoresgirl · 28/02/2010 00:10

I can't wait to find out what the tent scene and the bed scenes are all about. For tents I am imagining Edward saves Bella from a nasty spider making its way towards her!

TheMysticMasseuse · 28/02/2010 07:01

ok if we really want to be purists about RP's acting in the movie....

Bella's scent literally hurts Edward. For him being near her is physically painful. Touching her is a form of torture, a searing burn. Hence the stiff posture and arms, and the slightly constipated tortured expression. He does relax a bit in the course of the movie, and I dare anyone to tell me that the kiss scene at the prom is not swoontastic!

Georgimama · 28/02/2010 07:07

I actually liked KStew as Bella (I've only seen the first movie), but BB's is far and away the best performance in the whole thing.

The prom scene is simply marvellous.

Oh no no no no. Nothing like that whatsoever!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 28/02/2010 09:28

I'm just waiting for the leg hitch. I'm foreseeing a lot of women in the audience sighing simultaneously.

luckyblackcat · 28/02/2010 10:07

Oh god, the leg hitch

I do agree with Mystic re acting but also that he has to permanently rembember to hold himself back so he doesn't accidentally a)hurt her or b) eat her.

I think I'd look permanently stunned if I discovered that my BF was a mind reading vampire. (also I think she looks way better in the film than at the BAFTAs or the fashion do the next day, what has she done to her hair?)

What about after the tent scene where he (EC) gives them some privacy - I'll be taking a family sized box of tissues.

I haven't seen NM yet, as am a late convert.

Duritzfan · 28/02/2010 18:44

team charlie ? I dont understand ... nooo....

I am definitely team edward, I can understand team Jacob ..but not Charlie ..although I confess, he must be closer to my age !!

Sandy22 · 28/02/2010 20:19

yeh Team Charlie is probably closer but my age but I don't care I'm Team Edward all the way and I can't wait for the leg hitch scene.

Penguindreams · 02/03/2010 13:45

Very embarrassed and creeping out of the woodwork here to say thank you to LemonKlutz for the Wide Awake link (which has just stolen several hours of my supposed to be working day and was entirely responsible for contributed to a steamy interlude with the H last night).

Although I don't know why the author didn't just change the characters' names, publish it and make a fortune! What with all the character development and absence of chagrin, no-one would ever link it to SM !

TheMysticMasseuse · 02/03/2010 14:37

LOL Penguin, theres lots more fanfic recs where that came from!!! currently we're all swooning at the Misapprehension of Bella Swan.

I feel the same about AngstGoddess003. If only she had written the Twilight Saga, can you imagine how fucking awesome it would be???

OmicronPersei8 · 02/03/2010 14:43

Didn't I read somewhere that she is changing the names and publising WA as a book? She has to change the title too, though, as it's already taken.

Dumbledoresgirl · 02/03/2010 17:38

OK, finished New Moon today and went straight on to Eclipse. I'll be ready for the fanfic before long!

I did read some of the porn links on the twisluts thread, and also skimmed through the account of Twilight written from Edward's pov. I think SM should get off whatever high horse she is on and finish that novel as it was much more interesting reading Edward's pov than Bella's!

OP posts:
luckyblackcat · 02/03/2010 18:30

DG, enjoy Eclipse.

I have spent most of the day reading wide awake - thank goodness my DH is such an understanding employer although tomorrow is my teaching day and I have to do prep tonight so will not either get to read more or get much sleep (I only teach crafts so no worries that I will detrimentally affect their education)

Dumbledoresgirl · 02/03/2010 19:24

Oh, it's a shame you can't do without your sleep and read some more LBC. Don't you think one of the most attractive sides to Edward is that he never needs to sleep? My dh has insomniac tendencies and survives on a lot less sleep than me, and when I first knew him, hardly seemed to sleep at all. I found it incredibly comforting that he was always awake or quickly woke up for me if I needed him in the night (illness, etc, not what you are thinking!!) Lucky Bella that she has Edward tirelessly watching over her every night.

OP posts:
luckyblackcat · 02/03/2010 21:57

Indeed, Lucky Bella.

My DH, when in the UK, often has jet lag - well he uses that as an excuse anyway - and likes to sleep alot which drives me a little more demented. He's like a teenager, would be in bed till noon if I was more understanding!

What else would you need a DH for in the middle of the night? Shines halo and adjusts ankle length wyncette nightie.

I hope you are feeling chirpier this week, I loved the sun today (despite being indoors reading for most of the day!) and that always makes me feel a better.

I did my prep in record time and am rewarding myself with a few chapters of Wide Awake - it certainly raised my heartrate today!so not much chance of sleep later.

Think of me tomorrow am when I am teaching sewing to overexcitable 5 yr olds, who are actually far more amenable than the eye rolling Yr 6 tweenagers I have later on!

A big flask of coffee needed I feel.

TheMysticMasseuse · 03/03/2010 06:42

As someone else (sorry can't remember!) said on MN a while back, the best aspect of having a vampire H would be you never have to cook for him

Dumbledoresgirl · 03/03/2010 19:36

That as well. I think that is the secret attraction of vampires: their complete lack of needs. They don't need feeding, looking after, rest, anything! It allows Bella to be totally obsessed with herself all the time! Bliss!

Hope the teaching went well today LBC. I used to be a primary school teacher so I know the hazards and pitfalls well! (PS, thanks for asking. I am not really feeling much better but having missed the chance to get out into the sunshine earlier this week, I finally got out into the garden today and did some digging so at least I feel tired. I will have to relax this evening with some more Twi-nonsense. )
