Twilight - if you can call it adult fiction....

OK, I admit it, I have just read the first book in a couple of days. I only bought it and read it to be one step ahead of the game with regards to my dd reading it, but now I am hooked.

BUT

I'm sorry Twi-sluts Anonymous, it really is utter drivel. Hopeless plot, infantile language, bleeding obvious solution.

Still can't wait to get stuck into New Moon though. Off to see if my little town stocks it. Hoping to find it in a charity shop.

I'm Team Charlie. I've decided.

I suppose you all know that the bit where Edward is sucking the vemon out of Bella has RP singing as the background music? You all knew that didn't you? God he's good.

Maybe I'm team Edward....

maamalady · 26/02/2010 21:16

Mystic is mostly right, the books are dreadful, and the actors in the films are wonderfully photogenic. I would categorically NOT say that the film is good though! I think "bloody awful" sums it up better to be honest - all the gaps that are there in the books are just made more obvious in film, and Kristen Stewart is incredibly wooden. Can't say I noticed any chemistry at all! Scenery is wonderful though!

It is weird how such badly written books can be so addictive, but there you go!

The fanfic is well worth it (and not necessarily just for the lemons either) - Wide Awake in particular is very good, and written a damn sight better than Twilight!

Come over to the twi-sluts, you know you want to...

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/02/2010 21:17

Georgimama, that's twisluts 101

and i agree, charlie is def a DILF

Dumbledoresgirl · 26/02/2010 21:23

I must admit that pic of Robert/Edward which TeamEdward linked to was kind of, errrr, stimulating.

But stop trying to spoil the plots for me! I am only on page 61 of New Moon still.

I've just decided, mid prom scene, who RP/Edward reminds me of. It's a good remind.

A young, circa 1993, Christian Slater. No, I know he looks nothing like him. But there's a mannerism, a knowingness far beyond years kind of thing, that is most yumtastic.

Feel 15. Again. Again.

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/02/2010 21:35

Care for a bit more stimulation, Dumbledore?

Ok, enough, if you really want to drool, you know where to find us

the prom scene in Twilight the movie is wonderful!!! I may have to watch it again, it's been a while... and I am afraid Evilgiraffe and I will just have to agree to disagree on this one, I really like the movie

Georgimama · 26/02/2010 21:37

Do you almost feel sorry for Victoria as she's watching them? Very almost? She looks like she's crying. OK, her boyfriend was a sick, sadistic evil killer pervert, but she seemed to love him.

As a die-hard twi-slut, I have to agree that yes the books are pretty badly written, definitly no literary merit to them. Just ADDICTIVE and the endless possibilities provided by Cullen Porn and fanfiction are great!

There is an awful lot of fanfic out there and a huge amount of it is one hell of alot better written than the saga.

Anyway, basically, imho the twislut thing is ALL about the smutty fanfic and the cullen porn.

my two favourite cullens I can't seem to find a pic of them together where they both look as HOT as they should!

Sunshinemummy · 27/02/2010 08:00

Ooh I didn't know there was a team Charlie. That's the one for me, I find the tache strangely erotic

luckyblackcat · 27/02/2010 09:52

Dumbledoresgirl, funny you should say about reading them due to your DD's impending interest...

(This is a true, but really rather boring top tenuous style story)

A friend (and her DD) went to vist her sister, who lives in Barnes, during half term. She caught up with some old friends for coffee and started discussing the (Barnes based) bookclub.

One woman said that she had recently suggested Twilight as she wanted to check out what her tweenaged DD's were reading. She became completely obssessed, getting the DVD and all the books.

She happened to pipe up at bookclub and admit to her robsession, saying how hot he was etc... one of the other women there said, "You mean Rob? You know his mother." "Do I?" replied stunned robsessive. "Yes, X you've met her several times at my house and Rob used to babysit my DC."

She admitted to my friend that she felt like a real predator fancying the child of a woman she knows.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 27/02/2010 12:07

that's hilarious!!

Dumbledoresgirl · 27/02/2010 14:05

OK, I found the first film on youtube last night and watched half of it until I realised it was 12:30 and I had to get up this morning. First impressions of the film is that it is even worse than the book (so still addictive as I shall be returning to watch the second half when I can). I cannot see what the main leads gave to the roles. Bella never cracks a smile - she is supposed to be besotted with Edwards. Surely she would grin when he spoke kindly to her? And Edward (Robert, I mean, sorry RP fans) was so wooden. The book is full (irritatingly so) with descriptions of his changing expressions (mainly anger, amusement and a bit of confusion thrown in) yes RP just remained stoney faced throughout. And walked really woodenly too. Edward is supposed to have an animal fluidity to his movements.

Anyway, can I just ask please: I am now on p129 of New Moon, just as Bella is getting over her grief at Edward leaving her, but the bleakness of the novel is really getting me down and, as I am in quite a depressed state myself, I am worried about getting drawn further into depression reading this book. I know she gets back with Edward in the end, but please, can someone reassure me that this book is not predominantly bleak?

Sorry, millions of silly typos in that post. I hope the overall meaning is clear.

luckyblackcat · 27/02/2010 14:16

Oh you poor love, sorry you are down.

The film is addictive as crack, in fact the whole thing is - obviously whilst fighting my inner editor.

I didn't ever see EC raise one eyebrow either (every time that is mentioned in the book I think of Sean Connery) but I am generally to blinded by his prettiness to worry about facial expressions.

I've tried, unsuccesfully, to convince myself that the woodeness of the leads is part of the casting/directing vision, the bleakness is arty and representative...

But to answer your Q, I think it may remain a little bleak for a while longer - sorry.

I sobbed for the last 100 pgs or so.

luckyblackcat · 27/02/2010 14:19

too

Dumbledoresgirl · 27/02/2010 14:20

Thanks so much for replying. And your kindness brought a tear to my eye - but that is how bad I am at the moment!

Anyway, I don't mean to sound totally disparaging. Although RP doesn't do it for me, I do think his looks are right for the part. His sad aloofness is spot on and very appealing.

Oh God re the book.... Is Eclipse any brighter? I have the feeling not.... But I have it here to plough straight on with if New Moon leaves me sobbing.

OP posts:
luckyblackcat · 27/02/2010 14:28

I recently cried in front of two of DD's teachers and my new vet that I hadn't even met before - she hugged me and made it worse!

I am slightly recovered from my 'near the edge' state so can empathise absolutely.

Eclipse much less bleak imho, although I probably shed a few tears in that too.

I did have a brief foray into Team Jacob territory after NM and Eclipse - he is a Nice Guy.

Georgimama · 27/02/2010 14:35

luckbatcat - he's 24. Completely fair game imho. Not that any of us would stand a chance, but that's beside the point.

Men of her age wouldn't think twice about lusting after a 24 year old girl.

luckyblackcat · 27/02/2010 15:14

Agree that he is fair game (I did once work out our exact age diff ), but even I may feel a little uncomfortable lusting after a friends DS (and I'm generally fairly despicable).

My DH is 12 yr older than me, so age gap between Rob and I = perfectly acceptable!

I really only fancy him as EC, so I guess he's safe.

TheMysticMasseuse · 27/02/2010 16:42

I don't know, is it so bad to fancy the child of a woman you know, if said "child" is a 24 year old smoking hot world renowned sex symbol? I'd have probably asked her his number

dumbledore- i am so sorry you are feeling down. New Moon gets a bit bleaker, then very very silly, which i think should cheer you up a bit. And keep watching the movie- imo there are a couple of very beautiful scenes that lift me up everytime.

Eclipse is just plain silly. And Breaking Dawn kind of ridiculous. Both are more adventurous than angsty (whcih is why I didn't like them as much).

anyway, I started the twislut thread back in december when i was at a very low point, and i have to say it's kept me going, i have found that immersing myself into a parallel universe of smuttiness fanfiction, plus the steady supply of pretty photos and videos, it's really provided a lot of warmth and companionship into a very bleak winter. plus it's occasionally hilarious. So basically i refuse to be ashamed of my Robsession!
