Twilight - if you can call it adult fiction....

OK, I admit it, I have just read the first book in a couple of days. I only bought it and read it to be one step ahead of the game with regards to my dd reading it, but now I am hooked.

BUT

I'm sorry Twi-sluts Anonymous, it really is utter drivel. Hopeless plot, infantile language, bleeding obvious solution.

Still can't wait to get stuck into New Moon though. Off to see if my little town stocks it. Hoping to find it in a charity shop.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 26/02/2010 15:59

Yes, it is OBVIOUSLY utter drivel, but addictive. BUT then you read the fanfic and oh my!

(there's nothing wrong with posting that on the twisluts thread, btw, not ALL of us are Robert Pattinson obsessed)

BellaBearisWideAwake · 26/02/2010 16:07

(PS I don't think ANYONE here on MN is at all deluded re the literary merit of the books!) Let me know if you want some funny links to some blogs that put this point across far better than me.

And PPS the fanfic REALLY is gooooooooood. ANd better for having read the books.

Dumbledoresgirl · 26/02/2010 16:32

Thanks Bella. (OMG, is the name significant?) Glad at least one person did not take offence at my OP.

I did say I was hooked. Went out and bought New Moon and Eclipse, so that's me set up for the weekend.

I'll get back to you re the fan fic once the saga has been read. I don't want to stumble upon anything by mistake which will give the plot away. I already found out about Jacob by looking through YouTube.

The film is rubbish right? Just so I don't get carried away and buy the dvd.

OP posts:
Dumbledoresgirl · 26/02/2010 16:34

Oops, got fan fic and literary reviews muddled up there, but anyway, let me read the books first. I'll probably be a fully signed up Twi Slut by then.

OP posts:
BellaBearisWideAwake · 26/02/2010 16:54

the film is .... rubbish ..... but the vampires are delicious!

yes, best to read the books before anything else. they are but a gateway to the good shit.

(the Bella of the name is DEFINITELY a coincidence. I am a bits ad but not that sad. The wide awake refers to my FAVE fanfic. You will be drawn in, beware)

LemonKlutzCupCakeLover · 26/02/2010 17:01

I'm certain that none of us twi-sluts think that they are great literature.

We just want to lick suck and bite some of the cast.

We also enjoy reading pure filth loosely based on the same characters. Be warned though...some of us have had to buy new beds.

I'm loving being a twi-slut. It's the best fun I've had on mumsnet in the last 6 years. It sure beats nice ham and Boden into a cocked hat.

Sunshinemummy · 26/02/2010 17:02

The film is rubbish, the books are rubbish....but it's all strangely addictive. I read all four books in a week and the last one is hefty and even more rubbish than the others. Enjoy

PfftTheMagicDragon · 26/02/2010 17:05

I post on the thread but I think the books are rubbish, the films are worse, and I dont really fancy any of the people in the films. .....its all in the fanfiction I think!

LemonKlutzCupCakeLover · 26/02/2010 17:22

You should all read Wide Awake which is just such a fab story.

Welcome to the world of fanfiction.

Oooh LemonKlutz, who is the stud in the "lick" link? He is rather lickable, I must say. I can see that Rob Pattinson is a nice looking lad. No doubt I would be thrilled if one of my sons was as handsome as he. But he doesn't actually do it for me so any link to him is wasted on me, esp that one of him in a string vest with a fag in his mouth - yuck.

Now you see, I was tempted by your fan fic and have already picked up on a spoiler. So stop tempting me girls!

I am glad you all agree with me that the books have no literary merit. I was seriously worried about you all there for a minute!

OP posts:
Dumbledoresgirl · 26/02/2010 18:05

I am slightly worried now. I have just realised that the two main characters share their names with my ds2's and dd's middle names.

OP posts:
NoahAndTheWhale · 26/02/2010 18:10

I have read the first two.Got the third out of the library but am having problems getting going. Not sure what this says about me .

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/02/2010 18:18

I have yet to get into Twilight fanfiction. Between Harry Potter and Southern Vampire books FF I get nothing done as it is, if I add Twilight to the equation I may as well give my kids over to SS right now

Dumbledoresgirl · 26/02/2010 18:29

ABF, it depends if you have any dds or not (I think by your profile, you do?) I only decided to read these books because my dd is 10 next month and, having committed a boob by allowing her to have some Jacqueline Wilson books at Christmas which were far more grown up than I had imagined, I decided I ought to find out what Twilight was all about before she did. At least, that was my excuse to start...

OP posts:
AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/02/2010 18:50

Oh Ive read the Twilight books, I bought them for my niece a few years ago for her birthday and read them before I gave them to her purely to make sure they were ok for her I just know if I get into the fanfiction I'll be hooked and my flat will be a complete tip!
I love to tease my niece by saying they are rubbish and that Edward is ugly. She has a lifesize cardboard cut-out of him in her bedroom.

(Im still extremely tempted by these links)

LemonKlutzCupCakeLover · 26/02/2010 18:51

Dumbledoresgirl, that is Kellan Lutz. He plays Emmett in the films and he is completely shagadelic.

I am hopelessly devoted to all things Kellan.

He is fucking delicious. (This makes sense if you read Wide Awake)

Laters babes.

Georgimama · 26/02/2010 18:54

I make no literary claims for any of the books but I love them. And I love the film, of which I am planning a sneaky viewing in about ooh, 12 minutes as DH has gone out. Eclipse is actually my favourite, not sure what that says about me.

I abstain from fanfic because I am against it in principle.

thelennox · 26/02/2010 18:58

I am addicted to these books - hubby got me all 4 for my 30th birthday in November, and I have not stopped reading them since. I am a compulsive re-reader though!! Pregnant too - sitting around waiting for baby now, so have lots of time to read, cause everyone keeps telling me to relax. Oh, ok if you insist I will re-read my favourtie Edward passages again!!

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/02/2010 18:59
  1. the books are pure dross- one (very) good idea, badly written, poorly edited, and strung out over 1500 pages when 300 would have done perfectly well.

  2. the twilight film is awesome! despite the atrocious makeup and hair, and the urgent need of a laxative for the actor who plays Jasper, the chemistry between E and B is amazing, the scenery is luscious, and the whole feel of the movie perfectly captures the sexual tension and hormonal confusion that the books only manage to hint at

  3. (the new moon movie, however, is not as good, unless you're Team Jacob, which you can't be if you have only read Twilight)

  4. Robert Pattinson is incredibly hot and photographs extremely well- he is perfect internet obsession Mumsnet fodder

  5. the fanfiction is something else, often very well written, very clever, and very filthy

Did I make myself clear, Dumbledore?

see ya over at Twisluts in a couple of weeks...

TheMysticMasseuse · 26/02/2010 19:01

(warning, there may be spoilers)

very funny, and spot on:

Cleolinda Jones

NeonCupcakes · 26/02/2010 20:54

Yup, Mystic has pretty much summed it up.

Would change No 4 to read all the actors are incredibly hot and photograph well - even the bad guys!

And the whole premise of book 4 is rubbish! (But I still read it).

Georgimama · 26/02/2010 20:56

Am mid watch of Twilight.

Love Charlie so much.

"Edward wants to meet you. Officially"

"Alright. Bring him in."

Go Charlie!!
