It's a novel set in present day. It's written by an Irish woman and it's about an Irish woman who is married to an English guy and they live in England somewhere. It's pure chick-lit, but I found it very funny too.
The book opens with the woman having given birth and her husband arrives to tell her he's leaving her for a woman he's been having an affair with (I know doesn't sound too funny, but she's a very witty writer).
Woman returns to Ireland with her baby to move back in with her family; father, mother (who can't cook for toffee) and 2 sisters. She drinks herself stupid for a while as she grieves for her marriage then slowly but surely gets on her feet.
She falls for a friend of her sister and all's going well, then her husband turns up.
In the end she moves back to England.
Apparently this writer has written a trilogy about the same family.
