Lemony Snicket?

Looking through the latest Book People catalogue... 10 books for £25 instead of £69.

I know there's been lots of publicity about them but are they any good? I'm thinking of them for my 10.5 year old nephew.

They also have 6 books by David Almond - Skellig, etc. Again, any good?

Nephew currently into Tolkien.

DH loves the Lemony Snicket books. I haven't got around to reading them myself tbh, but the film was good.

And yes, I did mean DH

Thanks serenity. Anyone else with regards to a 10 year old?

My Dad has ordered them for DS who is 10 years

Other books he loves are ANTHONY HORROWITZ - about ALEX RIDER

He has read them over and over again

Most of his friends love AR books too

My ds is 10 and loved them - also into Tolkien. Sounds like a bargain

Lemony Snicket and Anthony Horowitz are fabulous. If you have to do a very long car journey, get the Lemony Snicket audiotapes - they are fantastic, and really good for adults to listen to as well as the kids.

OK, so I'm convinced about Lemony Snicket. Thanks all.

Now, thoughts on David Almond?

Again we listened to Skellig on audiotape and I thought it was stunningly good - had dd (then 6) and ds (then 10) enthralled all the way to Disneyland Paris. Haven't had any of his actual hard copy books yet, but I'd say he writes very well.

The David Almond books are fab and an absolute bargain on The Book People at the mo. Just ordered them for ds1 and also ordering them to use as class readers for yrs 7 and 8. Lemony Snickett rocks and the Alex Rider books are great. Buy them all but read them all yourself b4 giving to nephew!!!!
