Loved The Kite Runner/A Thousand Splendid Suns - any other similar books?

Read The Kite Runner a few weeks ago and have just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns. Loved them both, couldn't put them down and they have really got me back into reading.

I know that so far these are Khaled Hosseini's only books so I wondered if anyone knew of any other good books set in Afghanistan or similar?

I recently read a really good one set in Nigeria (iirc). I think she has done another one called 'Purple' something but this one was called "Yellow' something and was v good.

Half Of A Yellow Sun - that is the one I meant.

What is the What by David Eggers

The story of an African boy refugee. Very evocative and moving.

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver is also amazing.

Just read Burnt Shadows by Kamila Shamsie, it's excellent.

Another vote for 'the Poisonwood bible'. Also try 'Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

Winter in Madrid by CJ Sansom I loved that. Set around time of Spanish civil war.

I was also going to reccommend Half of a Yellow Sun, and also Purple Hibiscus (both by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie).
