vampires & forbidden love - no sell

Heathcliffscathy · 17/01/2010 19:54

a teenage girl from a broken home moves to her dad's having spent most of her life with her loving but childlike mother (flits around, has new boyfriend has moved half way across the country to be with him).

she is shy and awkward and has some self esteem issues.

the town she has moved to is quiet and not very exciting so there is a huge buzz about the new girl starting which she hates.

she is instantly drawn to a mysterious fellow pupil at her highschool. he and his family turn out to be vampires. they fall in love.

the books are about the difficulty of vampire/human love. coming of age. awakening sexuality. and our obsession with sex, death and the lure of the supernatural!

juicychops · 17/01/2010 19:58

hmmm is it very stereotypical vampire-ish,typical vampire blood sucking etc?
or quite adult, subtle?

the vampires are very attractive (in all senses of the word).

it is a book for young adults, so not that complex.

but if you want a page turning romantic read, this is it.

Hello Team

Juicy: yes the books are about vampires but no not the stereotypical vampire - for me these books are a wonderful love story and no not just for teenagers and young adults, I'm 42 and have read them 5 times now - I just love them.

juicychops · 17/01/2010 20:04

right, sold! im gunna give them a go

i watched twilight on youtube. i imagine the books is pretty similar. i think vampires are a bit daft though

Sandy22 · 17/01/2010 20:17

South: the books are far better, so much better I can't tell you. Noooooo, the vampires aren't daft at all.

pigsinmud · 17/01/2010 20:18

I've just read the first two. Found them very addictive.

Have the third, but am waiting ... don't know why?!

Sandy22 · 17/01/2010 20:21

schilke - why are you waiting - in my humble opinion the 3rd book, Eclipse is the best - get reading

4andnotout · 17/01/2010 20:25

I was pondering over this dilema the other day, in the books I'm veering towards Team Edward but in the films in a definate Team Jacob

WoTmania · 17/01/2010 20:25

SEA - books far better than the film. There's a lot more to it. Reading them was quite painful at times as it brings back teenage love very vividly IMO.

pigsinmud · 17/01/2010 20:26

Don't know why I'm waiting. I enjoyed the first two so much that it's a kind of delaying the pleasure tactic?!

Sod it I'll start reading it now.

Dh rolled his eyes and reminded me I'm not 14 whenever he saw me reading them.

it is a KNOWN FACT that Stephenie Meyer initially wrote the books for women HER age, ie 30 ish, and they have since been marketed and extended to a more teenage audience, and that's good enough for me to rebuff similar comments from my DH.

(fellow twisluts, am I labouring the point? DO you think I am possibly trying to convince myself, hmm?)

juicychops · 17/01/2010 20:29

no not seen the film. because it was to do with vampires made me turn my nose up at it to be honest. but now i know its not a typical 'vampire' movie il defo give the books a go. i always try to read the book before i see the film anyway because if it was the other way around then 9 times out of 10 id probably be put off reading the book!

i shall buy the first one tomorrow in asda as its only £3. quite excited now!!
