Just read this and really enjoyed it so have ordered 3 more of his books from Amazon.

Hope that I like them!

Anyone familiar with this author?

No, but the book is on my shelf. It's been there a while as it doesn't automatically grab my attention, from the blurb. Is it worth a go then?

Star of the Sea is excellent. A real favourite with our bookclub and loved by everyone I've bought it for since.

I have to say that I bought the 'follow up' (Redemption Falls) and just couldn;t get on with it at all.

Joseph is Sinead O'Connor's sibling, I believe. What a sickeningly talented family they are!

his early work is very funny. he got a bit serious for my liking later on!

sinead o'connor lives in the same town as me and i regularly see her around. she never fails to scowl at anybody who catches her eye, and her 'beau' john waters was on the radio the other day slagging off single mothers (grr). She looks like a homeless person and although she wants to be anonymous, she draws attention to herself by looking so shite!!. no that's unfair to homeless people, they often smile at you.

her brother i've also seen out and about in restaurants, on the beach, he's a normal friendly person. can't believe they grew up in the same family.

in one of joseph o'connor's books he mentions the road i grew up on! that is quite an odd feeling.

The Salesman! that was it, very good book. It is inbetween his early work which is all about gross men farting (oh ha ha) and the later stuff which was beyond me tbh

did you order the salesman betty?

I was very impressed by The Star of the Sea, which I read before Richard and Judy picked it out, from the library. I read his first couple of books, one about a character in a band, and then was disappointed by no 3, years ago, but would like to go back to those and read his others now.
