Has anyone else read this?

It is over and above my favourite book of the year. Highly reccomended.

It reduced me to tears in parts which happens rarely with books for me.

I have two others by him but found them very hard to get into.

Yes, have read it, enjoyed it a lot. Have you read The Kite Runner?

Re: Zadie Smith, didn't rate The Autograph Man, but enjoyed On Beauty....

Am guessing you have read The Secret History by Donna Tartt?

orangina · 10/12/2009 10:33

And Kate Atkinson too...

SmoothCriminal · 10/12/2009 10:35

No haven't read The Kite Runner yet - t's on my 'to read' shelf.

As is The Secret History.

Just remember Jonathen Strange and Mr Norrel by suzanna clarke!? was great

And oh have you read 'Atomised' and 'The possibility of an Island'?

No, have read none of those (will add to Christmas list immediately.....)

The Secret History would be one of my desert island books. Together w Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter. And Adhaf Soueif. And Microserfs.

SexySantasWearPrimark · 10/12/2009 10:58

The possibility of an Island is in my top 10.

orangina · 10/12/2009 11:12

Have just added it to large amazon christmas order....

Mistletoesnowman · 10/12/2009 13:22

Someone mentioned Iris Murdoch. Love her, especially The Sea The Sea.

Has anyone read either Fugitive Pieces or Silk? Both wonderfully written and well worth a punt.

GerMom7 · 10/12/2009 13:59

Love most things mentioned - particularly The Corrections. Saw Jonathan Franzen do a reading of it in Edinburgh and he was very funny.

Has anyone tried Richard Russo? He's one of my favourites (Empire Falls, Straight Man, Bridge of Sighs, Nobody's Fool), won the Pulitzer for Empire Falls.

Also Don DeLillo's White Noise.

SCargot · 10/12/2009 14:07

I kept thinking about it during that Meredith Kercher trial in Italy.

Secret History I mean.
