Have just read first pages on amazon and no, it seems to be about sloths mainly

is it red earth pouring rain (something like that)

Interestingly a very promising start from the title, but no apparent rain in the first pages

The Rains Came by Louis Bromfield. Great book from what I remember.

'The God of Small Things' by Arundhati Roy starts with a description of monsoon rain...

It's not The Inheritance of Loss is it? That has something about rains in it but not sure if it's at the beginning.
