Would like to get MIL some books, she likes Maeve Binchy. As I've not read any myself, I'm not sure who else's writing MIL might enjoy. Any suggestions? I was wondering about Catherine Cookson? Or something with an Irish slant?

Zacharyquack - my book group are reading the guernsey potato book this month, and SIL usually passes her copy straight to MIL, so I expect she will read it. I agree, tis lovely

Sinead Moriarty writes in a whimsical Irish style and is very funny.
There is a website called fantasticfiction which will suggest similar authors to the one of your choice.

Claire Connor has a new book called Rosie Note to Self - really lovely and thrilling - a bit like Rebbecca meets Jane Austen but set in modern times
