An Echo In the Bone - Diana Gabaldon, did you like it?

I've just finished the massive trade paperback of this one, the latest in the Outlander series, and I'm really not sure about it. I loved a Breath of Snow and Ashes when it came out, but I'm not sure if she's losing her way here. It could be that it's a bit like The Fiery Cross and is providing links for what is to come.

I am just about to start it, have the trade paperback too. God, is it really as bad as the FIery Cross? It took me about ten attempts to get through that, it was dire!

at your trade copies. Really can't wait to get my mitts on this book. I read the other 6 (?) back to back and was enthralled. I think she's said there is definately one final book to come so you're maybe right. I've read that it seems to jump around a bit and can be difficult to work out where you are, did you find that?

There's another Outlander book?!! I had no idea she was writing more. I thought Snow and Ashes was the last one. Hooray!!! More Jamie!!! When is it out?

If you preordered the hardback from Amazon, then emailed the publisher with a copy of your receipt, they sent you a trade paperback for free. I now don't know if I am still supposed to buy the hardback or if I can cancel the order. Hardback due out in January.

This one jumps around - Bree and Roger are part of the plot (and how!), but I got confused with some of the new characters and who Fergus is really supposed to be. The mystery of whom Laighoire is with gets solved and she kills off some nice characters.

There is a bit at the end that confused the hell out of me. It says that Bree told Lord John who and what she and her mother are. However, I can't find it in a breath of Snow and Ashes; neither can I find it in this book, as Bree is back in the 1980s by then, living at Lallybroch.

I did read it in about 3 days (and it is huge), so I need to go back and reread it in slow time I think.

I thought the first three quarters of the book were a waste of time. The last section picked up the pace considerably. I read that the latest book has been delayed again, so will not be released in UK to Jan 2014.

Starz are also looking to make it into a TV series. They see it on the same vein as Game of Thrones apparently.

Yes, not too sure how they would put that in a TV series. I think they would have to water it down.

fromparis, yes, I was uncomfortable with that part too. It's the kind of hurt/comfort scenario you see in slash fiction.

I've read the first three books and I'm taking a break. I'll probably get around to the others, but atm I'm a bit sick of the author perving over Jamie's every pubic hair.
