Once again, a need a book-inspired fancy dress costume please.

Any ideas for something easy but a bit quirky?

How easy would Lady Macbeth be for instance?

Any more ideas very gratefully received!

Juliet?

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/10/2009 18:20

Ophelia? You could go all wet?

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/10/2009 18:21

Or go as a scout?

janeite · 03/10/2009 18:21

Think I might be a bit old and norky for that! But thank you.

Had already wondered about Ophelia! Don't really want to have to buy a dress and will be in front of teenagers, so can't wear a nightgown!

Is anybody not watching the dancing and therefore available to help me, please?

Penelope from the Odyssey = simple dress plus some unfinished sewing/weaving?

Pyrocanthus · 03/10/2009 19:41

Lizzy Bennett if you have the right kind of nightgown.

If you have the wrong kind of nightgown, then it would do for Lady M if you carry a bar of soap.

janeite · 03/10/2009 19:42

God I would love to be Elizabeth Bennet but think it would mean hiring stuff and want to avoid that.

I don't have any kind of nightgown and really couldn't wear one anyway, as is a secondary school. Did see a v Lady M-ish one in Past Times though!

Penelope is a possibility. I have been Medussa before. Any other mythological possibilities?

Oi - what about my scout suggestion? That's pretty quirky!

Or any less-obvious fairy tale characters?

VintageGardenia · 03/10/2009 20:19

Lady of Shalott in a headband and belt?

Miss Marple in a tweed suit, hat and handbag?

Boudicca, in a helmet & something belted under the bust?

VintageGardenia · 03/10/2009 20:20

Oooh you could be poor old Karen if you have any red shoes...

janeite · 03/10/2009 20:25

Arghh - don't mention red shoes. It gave me nightmares for years! Would be a good costume though.

Miss Marple sounds fun! Or Miss Moneypenny maybe?

Believe me, a belt under my bust would so not be a good thing!

Yes, even if you're a teacher dressing up in front of teenagers you still want to look mildly attractive I think but hard to think of heroines who are not girlish.

What about Sweet Thursday or Mrs Morales?

Or Aunt Ada Doom!!

Longtalljosie · 03/10/2009 20:31

Mad Mrs Rochester with a candle and everything peculiar from the back of the wardrobe?

VintageGardenia · 03/10/2009 20:32

Oooh yes with your hair all beddy and a singed dressing gown!

Ledodgy · 03/10/2009 20:33

wear a long dress. Then stuff a few pairs of tights and stick them on your head and go as Medusa.

Ledodgy · 03/10/2009 20:33

Oh just read the whole thread and its been mentioned already. ignore me!

janeite · 03/10/2009 20:35

Just googled Miss Marple - too old!

What about wearing a long rope and a fake beard. Put a sign on your back saying I love my mum and you can be Oedipus?

janeite · 03/10/2009 20:36
