Once again, a need a book-inspired fancy dress costume please.

Any ideas for something easy but a bit quirky?

How easy would Lady Macbeth be for instance?

Any more ideas very gratefully received!

Thanks both. There is always at least one Little Red Riding Hood!

Am sorted now I think.

For future reference, this site might be useful

So I have found -

black prom dress
black satin full length ball skirt
grey knee length shorts
black knee length shorts
black three quarter length peg trousers
black waistcoat
white shirt
baker boy hat
dd1s huge bovver boot things
tank top

Oliver easy / Charlie Bucket easy / Violet would probably be the prom dress and ribbons / what would Mrs Twit wear? Or I can always fall back on Lady Macbeth, Miss Havisham or Miss Moneypenny.

Or a skeleton costume (topical) and white card headband with the face of Mr/Mrs Funnybones on.

Love that idea! Maybe next time?

Oh I see you are fixed up now. I was thinking you could go as 'James' wearing a giant peach made out of foam (coloured yellow/orange) with little pockets each containing a toy ladybird, a spider and erm, whatever else there was!

Thank you all. Am sorted. I will be either Violet Baudelaire, Oliver Twist, Charlie Bucket or Mrs Twit, depending on what I can find in the wardrobe!

Jadis, the White Witch? (Narnia); Alice?; Pippi Longstocking?; Katherina? (Taming of the Shrew)

Sorry, am just naming random characters now, am hoping one of these will do

Just go dressed as a teacher from the 1930s, speak with a Scottish accent, call them creme de la creme, gels, talk about Italy and tell them you're Miss Jean Brodie.

Or... white sheet, ghostie make up, wild hair - Cathy from Wuthering Heights.

Get yourself a cheap witch's Halloween outfit and go as the green faced one from Wicked. We've got the book which I think came before the musical!

Could be wrong tho....

Mrs Coulter too beautiful for me I think - although would love to. Tbh I think hardly any of them would know it anyway.

Am quite taken by Miss Moneypenny I must admit but since I live in pencil skirts it may be too close to my normal stuff.

What about Mrs Coulter from His Dark Materials?

Bellatrix is a good one

I liked the Miss Moneypenny idea earlier as well.

The problem is finding something that pupils in a deprived area with largely book-less families may have heard of.

Thank you so much for reviving this. I am still no nearer to being sorted and I need it for Monday.

I am thinking maybe Violet Baudelaire, although my class suggested Bellatrix Lestrange!

Any more?

What about a handmaiden from A Handmaid's Tale - red dress with a white headdress?

Rebecca?

If Miss Marple is too old, what about Tuppence?

Thursday Next, from Jasper Fforde.

You could wear normal clothes, although I admit you might stumble over the procurement of a stuffed dodo.

Someone from Riders - just need boots & riding helmet (bit risque?)

The Woman in White - quite easy I would have thought

Mildred Hubble from the Worst Witch.

Winnie the Witch (too young a readership?)

Laura Ingalls from Little House... - pigtails and bonnet (not strictly literature I guess)

Otherwise I kind of favour Miss Havisham for goth-cred.
