Has anybody else read this? I adore this book which was recommended by my parents but whenever I ask anybody about it no-one else has read it.

I read it in the 1970s I think. I am very old.
Leon Uris was very popular then and I went through a phase of reading all his books. They had quite a profound effect on me at the time as an emotional teenager but when I tried to revisit one a few years ago I just found it badly written and mushy.
Good historical background though.

I've read it but that was years ago and I can't remember a thing about it!

I read it in 1994- I had been working in Liverpool with a lot of Irish-descended friends (who all recommended it)I remember it being very powerful, thought provoking, tragic, awe-inspiring and shaming.....
It's on my shelf right here....I don't think I could read it again- it's one of those that takes too much out of you.

Another one of his that I also liked was the one set in Israel/Palestine. (Exodus)
