Please help me remember the name of this book

A couple of years ago I read a book which was about a boy growing up in the seventies and his memories of the food he ate at that time - it was all there - Angel Delight, jacobs cream crackers (I think) etc etc

The author was male and maybe a food writer.

Does anyone know the book please?

Was it dog jis? I'm sure a dog was involved somehow.

I can't remember - just that he made my flesh crawl a bit. He is such a strange looking little man and clearly has some issues.
