Just finished this - I loved it! Couldn't find a thread about it. Anyone else read it?

Tillyscoutsmum · 06/08/2009 08:46

I bought it a couple of weeks ago but haven't had chance to start it yet. I think the sequel is out as well isn't it ?

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/08/2009 08:46

I loved it and was gutted to find that the next two of the books in the trilogy weren't available!

However, the second one is out now in paperback, and in my pile to read on holiday!

troutpout · 06/08/2009 08:49

Yes i enjoyed it too. I would never have picked it up normally..but a friend passed it on.
The second one was ok...not quite as good though imo

wingandprayer · 06/08/2009 08:51

I have just started this am really enjoying it. Got #2 ready and waiting for afterwards.

All three on Amazon BIWI

cilldara · 09/08/2009 13:46

I enjoyed it too, although I thought it took quite a while to get going. Once it took off it was gripping. Must look for the second one now.

pollyperkins · 09/08/2009 13:55

These were brilliant IMO! The second one was well worth it and when I read it at the beginning of the year I was horrified to learn that the final one hadn't yet been translated into English. Fortunately they've hurried up the translating process and the final one's out in October (not in Jan '10 as originally stated by the publishers) - pathetically, it's one of the things I'm most looking forward to in the next few months

foxinsocks · 09/08/2009 14:05

gawd me too polly. I was ridiculously excited when they brought forward the date.

deaddei · 09/08/2009 15:40

I'm doing an Amazon order later and was thinking of this book- you certainly recommend then ladies?

foxinsocks · 09/08/2009 16:21

yes, good summer holiday reading. I found the first one, I needed a few chapters to be hooked but after that, I raced through them!

deaddei · 09/08/2009 16:26

Just ordered it!!!!

MrsMattie · 13/08/2009 15:02

Bought it after recommendations on another MN thread. A third of the way through and I'm finding it a bit clunky and obvious. Hoping it improves.

hocuspontas · 13/08/2009 17:18

What did Larsson die of?

I only ask because during reading the second one I wondered if he had unwittingly outed a lucrative criminal underworld and had been put on a hit list! His descriptions of the illegal activities were so detailed it may have hit a nerve.

I think I enjoyed the first one more but definitely looking forward to the third.

LoveTheCarbs · 14/08/2009 08:22

I also thought it was a bit obvious, but enjoyed it anyway. Looking forward to reading the second one as I was waiting for the paperback to come out.

No criminal underworld involved in his death - Larsson died suddenly of a heart attack in his 40s.

hocuspontas · 14/08/2009 10:41

Oh good. Thanks

CoteDAzur · 15/08/2009 21:45

I loved the first. Second story was a bit of a stretch. I can't wait for the third.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 18/08/2009 19:45

Fantastic - I just finished the 2nd and have pre-ordered the 3rd from library. A shame he died young, I bet he had a few more good books in him.

LyraSilvertongue · 17/09/2009 19:06

I've just finished this - thought it was brilliant. I'll be starting the second as soon as I can get hold of a copy.
I didn't think it was obvious at all - maybe I'm a bit dim

moonshine · 17/09/2009 19:58

I really liked the first one but actually preferred the 2nd one (even if it was full of some major coincidences).

TwoIfBySea · 18/09/2009 11:00

Loved it too! Second one is on the way, ordered it ages ago off Amazon and my order didn't turn up but they are resending them - I've had to wait ages rather impatiently.

Buda · 18/09/2009 11:05

I enjoyed this too. Read the second one as well and enjoyed it. Passed it on to a friend yesterday. Def looking forward to the next one.

Squarah · 22/09/2009 18:22

Just finished it this afternoon. I found the first 150 pages very pondourous and far too information-filled for no apparent reason e.g. did we really need that much info on Wennerstrom's businesses at the beginning? or that level of detail on the Vanger family? I think it just needed more brutal editing and perhaps his death meant they didn't feel able to.

Really looking forward to the second - nervous about Salander's advocate. Does it get going a bit quicker? I just spent Nearly 3 hours finishing the book in bed this afternoon - a real treat!

LoveTheCarbs · 27/09/2009 17:57

Just finished the second one in the series - loved it! Much better than the first one. Looking forward to the last one..
