I can remember reading this in high school but never got the chance to read it to the very end. What I did read of it was enjoyable. What do others think of it? I've actually put a request in at the library for this book so will pick it up and read it from the beginning! Looking forward to it.

It is set in The Howe of the Mearns and is a hauntingly beautiful book. The trilogy is called "A Scots Quair" link

yeah, think I may go on to read the two books that follow it. Even after 13 or 14 years I've decided to get round to reading it now, have to find out the ending before I die!! lol.

thanks for replying

Yes - read the trilogy and thought they were fab. Wasn't it voted one of Scotland's favourite reads this year??

Loved it. I did it for Higher English, and went on to read the other two books myself. I can remember the second book - Cloud Howe - but can't remember the name of the third book.

It had quite a profound effect on me at the time, although can't quite remember what (this was back in 1981/2), but perhaps someting to do with the 'English Chris' and the 'Scottish Chris' (if her name wasn't Chris, then please substitute the correct one - but for some reason that is the name jumping out of my memory banks.
