The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I have to shout from the rooftops.

Just about to finish this book.

It is FANTASTIC.

First of a trilogy by Stieg Larsson who has sadly now died.

It's a thriller/crime novel set in Sweden. If you liked Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow, you'll love this.

I have just started this. So far so good. I don't usually read fiction so that's a good start.

Gripping - but gaspingly VILE in parts - can't have it in the house now.

This was absolutely fantastic. I was gutted to find that the rest of the trilogy isn't available in paperback yet!

I loved this - it was a total impulse buy for holiday reading last year and both dp and I loved it. Unusual as we only agree on sci fi usually! Can't wait to read the next one and LOVED the tattoo bit

The Girl Who played with Fire is £8 in hardback on Amazon and the third one The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest is out in October. It's available for pre-order on Amazon. I can't wait!

Just finished this book. It was a good read but got bored of reading about coffee and sandwiches

I love this book.
One of the best thrillers in years. And considering Child 44 cam out the same year we are spoiled.

Girl who Played with Fire was way flabby (I gave up on it a third of the way in), a real letdown after Dragon Tattoo.

Came to this thread late as just finished 'the girl with the dragon tattoo'. I found it really engrossing. A very well made crime novel. (But Mia is right- far too many mentions of coffee & sandwiches!!)

What did others think?

Am now reading the next one in the trilogy, just started it. I have to say the beginning doesn't seem as gripping as the dragon tattoo

I love the way he givesyou details about her Ikea furniture! Is this a bizzare swedish trait? You need to price and places everyone's home furnishings . Don'tthink the second one is as good as the first, but does it explain a lot about her...

Blackduck, now you come to mention it, that was a bit odd. But I think it was to juxtapose quite how precise and ordered she was about the little things in life while completely missing what she could have done in that space - or,actually, not caring at all, of course.

But he doesn't just do it about Lisbeth's furniture - he does it about everyones - that's what makes me wonder if it is a Swedish thing? I once read a Japanish thriller and it had NO decriptions in it at all - which made me wonder if that is a Japanish trait...

I think it might be plain & simple product placement . I've read somewhere (not sure whether it's true) that because larsson died before the publication, that may have given the editor unlimited opportunity for advertising. Horrible if that happened...

I'm probably too late but do stick with it Maria. IMO none of the books start well (all that stuff about Wennerstom's finances at the beginning of the first one almost made me give up). But they all get better. Much, much better. I loved all three.

The second is brilliant, I actually preferred it as it was more about Lisbeth and her background.
Both books brilliant but only once I got about a third of the way in, I thought the starts were very slow.

No, I thought the second was flabby, too, but the 3rd one in trilogy (had to go and get it in German as it was already released and I was utterly utterly unable to wait for English publication next year) was absolutely riveting again with v satisfying conclusion.

I bought this to read on holiday in Sweden this summer - I rather like reading crime fiction set in the location I'm exploring - and I really enjoyed it, although I needed a very strong stomach in parts.

Really, Lyra ? Well, when I was trying to get it, oh 8-9 months ago it was not available yet. Nevermind, as it was going to be a translation anyway (no Swedish here, I'm afraid), I don't mind.
What's the 3rd one called in English? Did you like it?

Loved it. It's called The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest. It was only published in English on October 1. So you were still well ahead.
Such a shame there will be no more books. I felt there was more to be told. There were supposed to be 10 books but then Stieg Larsson died and all the other books went with him .
