help me find something to read please

lately i have been having trouble getting into books. I am looking for something to read that i wont be able to put down. i have just tried reading the shopoholic books and found them a bit boring. also tried lionel shrivers post birthday world and couldnt get into it. what great books are people reading?

If you haven't read it, my all time fave is
Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett. If you have read it a sequel came out a little while ago called 'A world without end'

And I love Sheri Tepper ...any of them, they are sort of sci fi, fantasy feminism

And have you read the other Dan Brown books?

I've just read Snobs by Justin Fellowes - heard it n Woman's Hour and it was very funny and, I found, thought-provoking.
It's not high end literature, but it's well-written and by no means chick-lit.

'The Gargoyle'

Have temporarily forgotten the author, but think I am a bit in love with this book, Magical!

I think you would enjoy Marian Keyes, particularly The Other Side Of The Story. It's very accessible without being too fluffy or tedious like the shopaholic books. Have you tried Jodi Picoult? I used to work in a bookshop for years, and that's what I would suggest for someone who didn't get on with the shopaholic series but wanted something not too highbrow but not inane either! Btw, you are quite right about the Lionel Shriver one ...it was pretty awful! We need to Talk About Kevin is much more compelling, very dark and thought-provoking. Nicci French does great popular psycholgical thrillers too.

yes i loved we need to talk about kevin and have read all of the jodi picoult books (i think, will check that out). thanks for suggestions am going to have a spend on amazon

Have you read the March book club book, What Was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn? I'm halfway through it now and it's fab!

Also recently enjoyed Kate Atkinson's Case Histories, Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon and Sadie Jones' The Outcast.

If you like Jodi Picoult books then you'd probably like Paullina Simons books, and would also recommend Random Acts of Heroic Love, Notes From An Exhibition and The Book Thief.

Another vote for Nicci french, a bit samey but i tend to zoom through those. A book I absolutely couldn't put down was "the historian" by kristina kostonova (i think) Its a bit davinci codey, but far far FAR better written (lets face it that wouldnt be hard!) and not about God!! lol, its about dracula instead i just lost myself in it

Case Histories and the other one the name of which I've forgotten are decent enough reads: not earth shattering but a pleasant enough way of whiling away a couple of hours.

'The Historian' is a great big, stompingly exciting read: I loved it. I can also recommend Notes From An Exhibition and The Book Thief.

I'm afraid I hate Jodie Piccoult and loathed 'Kevin' and 'The Outcast' and the one Nicci French I've ever read (in desperation on holiday) too but horses for courses!

Think I will buy 'The Gargoyle' this weekend...
