Just interested and always looking for inspiration though I have a huge "to read" pile already!

Am currently reading "Revolutionary Road"
Last read "Portobello" by Ruth Rendell
Next will probably be...oh I don't know, will immerse myself in book mountain and see what I fancy.

Last read The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break which was quite good and you could tell it was written by a poet if you know what i mean, but i think it lost pace for me over the last 50 or so pages and i admit i only skimmed.

Currently reading Monster Love. I have no idea why b/c the story is truly disturbing but i can't put it down. Has anyone else read it?

Next on - i have at least a dozen lying around but the next one must be feel good, so maybe a Douglas Kennedy?

tangarine · 06/03/2009 18:33

Started "Somewhere towards the End" last week. Also have books on Coaching and NLP on the go (work related) and Psychology (OU course related). Have an Iris Murdoch by the bed, as well as "Thames". But the book I have read most of this week is Enid Blyton's "The Castle of Adventure", with DS2 .

SouthernMeerkat · 06/03/2009 18:59

Have just read The History of Love by Nicole Krauss (excellent) and The Suspicions of Mr Whicher (also very good) for my book group.

Am currently reading The Welsh Girl which I'm enjoying, and then I am going to read Simon Sebag Montefiore's biography of Stalin because I haven't read any tomes lately!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2009 19:03

God help me but I have to read Labyrinth for book group.
Last book was 'Gemsquash Tokoloshe' (6 and half out of ten)
I am going to read 'Let's Call the Whole Thing Off - Love Quarrels from Anton Chekov to ZZ Packer' - a collection of short stories and next book group title will be Notes from an Exhibition which I have read and liked a lot.

piscesmoon · 06/03/2009 19:21

Astonishing Splashes of Colour by Claire Morrall. I am really enjoying it.
I have just finished the Book Thief-I think there was a long thread on here about it-I must look it up.

Jeremyll33 · 06/03/2009 19:29

I've discovered a surprisingly large section of English books at our local German library.

First out was "Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. 'Ad me on the edge of the bed at night!

Then "Angels and Demons" which is to be a film out this year by DB. DB isn't too deep but just enough to keep you into his books - I love them.

Latest is "The Dice Man" A 70s classic. Very odd and a bit disturbing. I find it excellent.

Takver · 06/03/2009 19:58

Just finished working my way through the 10 Amber novels by Roger Zelazny (have read a fair few times before, but they come out every so often).

Now started on Development as Freedom by Amartya Sen which is a remarkably easy read and very interesting. (I think I picked it up from a recommendation on MN non-fiction lists in fact.)

I might try and get the Dice Man from the library, looks interesting.

forkhandles · 06/03/2009 20:30

Just finished Bel Canto by Ann Pattchet which was surprisingly good.

Funnily I have a choice of two to choose from next both of which have been mentioned here - The Secret River by Kate Grenville or What I Loved by Siri Hustvedt.

bodiddly · 06/03/2009 20:34

I have just finished Jodi Picoult's Change of Heart and am now reading Kate Jacobs' Comfort Food. Not sure what is going to be next though!

MuppetsMuggle · 06/03/2009 20:35

kaz33 · 06/03/2009 20:42

White Tiger - booker prize winner

Next - Robinton Mistry - Family Matters (having read A fine balance - brilliant, brilliant book)

CDMforever · 06/03/2009 20:43

Oh, Muppets, both of your books are on my Book Group's list to read over the next few months, are they any good?

MuppetsMuggle · 06/03/2009 20:45

A must read, I love to read I think I go through about 3 books a month.

Dawns autobiography I love the style of how it was written, very indepth.

Sophie, well i've read her others and this is just a great improvement, very quirky lol

duckyfuzz · 06/03/2009 20:46

currently reading 'human traces' by sebastian faulks, really enjoying it although it took me a while to get into it

I may read the chick lit book that came free with my red magazine this week next

NormaJeanBaker · 06/03/2009 20:49

The Winter Book by Tove Jansson. For anyone who hasn't read it 'A Fine Balance' by Rohinton Mistry is one of the best books I've ever read.

VinoEsmeralda · 06/03/2009 20:52

Last book: The forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
Current book: The pillars of the earth by Ken Follett
Next book: The Guernsey Liteary and Potato Peel Pie Society by mary Ann Schaffer

CDMforever · 06/03/2009 20:52

Norma, mu mum recommended A Fine Balance so it must be good! Looking forward to reading it. Currently reading the Secret Scripture, not sure what I think yet, a bit different....

NormaJeanBaker · 06/03/2009 21:00

I love it - but prepare for some sorrow! In fact am going to stop on here and go off to read a bit of Tove now while all is quiet.

BirdyArms · 06/03/2009 21:07

Currently reading The Road Home by Rose Tremain which is excellent - though am feeling dreadful today because I was up til 1.30 am last night reading.

Not sure what to read next, am going to look back though this thread for inspiration.

Kimi · 06/03/2009 21:07

LadyG · 06/03/2009 21:33

Notes from an exhibition - Patrick Gale - greatly enjoying it

BonsoirAnna · 07/03/2009 11:42

I'm reading Paris The Secret History by Andrew Hussey. It's very easy to read and gives a great overview of the history of this city which I know so well.
