Just wondering if there are any Patricia Cornwell fans out there?

I really enjoyed the first few, but think they have gone of the boil the last ones. NOt sure whether to buy the ;latest tbh. About to go make a cup of tea and sit down with the latest Jeffrey Deaver - work has shut due to snow!

Brangelina · 05/02/2009 13:49

I've read them all but agree with Panda that the latest ones have lost much of their intrigue. Maybe the character was geting too familiar and a bit hackneyed.

francagoestohollywood · 05/02/2009 13:53

I enjoyed the first three books, and then Scarpetta started to become quite annoying and "perfect" especially after having quitted smoking, iyswim...

afrazzledmum · 05/02/2009 13:55

I am a big cornwell fan, and have recently read 'scarpetta.'

snooks · 05/02/2009 13:57

Well I think the latest one (Scarpetta) is worth a read and almost back on form, not quite vintage Scarpetta though, but gripping nonetheless. Unlike the previous two(?)before this which were (ahem) rubbish.

PlumBumMum · 05/02/2009 13:59

In the middle of Scarpetta,
Yeap I've thought the last 3, from bringing Benton back shes gone off the boil abit esp everybody always out to get Kay, but I'm still enjoying it, so don't tell me what happens

have only read one book from the other series she did, andy brazil, actually not sure weither I finished it!

Used to read them but the more recent ones are written in the present tense which I hate

fishie · 05/02/2009 14:31

poor pasty lost her marbles after first few. i think you're right franca, it did coincide with her giving up smoking.

Sidge · 05/02/2009 14:43

The first 5 or 6 were great - really exciting and interesting.

Then they went a bit mad - I mean, Benton coming back, come on... and the weirdo serial killer who had it in for Scarpetta personally.

I haven't read the latest but if anyone thinks it's worth a read I'll get it from the library.

AussieLou · 05/02/2009 15:18

I was wondering if it was a ghost writer in the end. The last few were very different to her first 5 or so. I did not enjoy them at all.

Miggsie · 05/02/2009 15:33

Blowfly was the begining of the end for me, it just got too illogical, and Benton came back from the dead and then they all turned into vigilanties? It was tacky, they ended up as bad as the people they were chasing.

I gave up then, it was just silly, and her writing style changed and it was nowhere near as good.

Have you tried Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone books?

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/02/2009 16:24

waves to plum

read them all

did think the benton plot wa a bit ott
yes read all the alaphbet books - well as far as she has got

a REAL fav author of mine is Martina Cole

her books are fab, full of sex, drugs, porn and brill plots and well written

sometimes the topic children murdered/abused is a bit but so well written

she lives 5 miles away from me

AussieLou · 05/02/2009 17:33

I got a bit sick of Sue Grafton around the N book I think. I moved onto Janet Evanovich and Kathy Reichs who I tihnk is much better the Patricia Cornwall

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2009 13:22

also liked janets books with stephanie plum - easy reading

would like to meet ranger

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 15:10

Well finished it, I did enjoy abit more like her older stuff but still abit anoying

Does anybody else think sometimes the killer is abit obvious sometimes?

loved all the cornwall books, howver feel she has gone off the boi a bit.

Don't like whay she's done to Marino (he would never have done that), Lucy or Benton, so I haven't yet got round to reading the latest one though i'm sure I will as I want things to get better!

Don't worry I know its not real!!!

PlumBumMum · 15/02/2009 15:24

Well quint I'm in agreement with you so I think you should read Scarpetta as I think she knows herself she shouldn't have done that with Pete and this book sort of makes it all better, so get reading
