Has anyone read this? A friend has recommended it to me as a cracking good read. I am thinking of suggesting it for my book group but see that it is loooong 500+ pages. Now I love a nice long book but some of the women in the group are resistant to anything over 400 pages. Can anyone reassure me that it's worth it and is indeed a reet page turner?

God it is FANTASTIC. I too found that took a little while to get into it, but once I did......

Actually, I think the second is better. The first is excellent, but I think slightly suffers from having multiple strands which take a while to come together.

The second is much more compact (as long in terms of pages, but the story is tighter and there are fewer tangents).

HAve been waiting ages for the second. THink the translator has now realised is popular and is trying to whizz through the third. Such a shame that the author died after completing the trilogy, but before being massively recognised and acclaimed.

Oh is he dead? Apparently the first book sold over 5 million copies throughout Europe. Second only to a certain H. Potter.

I feel like a right thicko as have never heard of it.
