The Spare Room by Helen Garner is quite simply the best book I have ever read

I have read it in a day and need to re-read it as soon as possible.
It is beautifully written. The descriptive pieces are short and eloquent. There is not a wasted sentence in the book. And for such a sad theme, there is such humour and passion.

Ir is based in Melbourne, and is about a lady having her friend, who has terminal cancer to stay for three weeks whilst visiting alternative treatments. Yet it is not a sad book, it is just so perfect.
