have read all the torey hayden books and enjoyed them but do think a lot of it is fictional or about 6 different figures rolled into one.

I have read them. I am training to be a teacher and found that side of them a good slant on the usual 'horrible misery' that these books can have.

I'm not sure how true they all are - who can be really? I did find myself thinking that in her career she seems to have come across an awful lot of abused children though....
