I'm on p159 so far and I have no idea whether to carry on. 1 person I spoke to said it explains at the end why and I really am tryin to understand her and the book.

thats how I feel at the moment about this book. I can't just drop it and hope to go back to it, as its a library book.

OH HELP!

skip to the end

luckywinner · 14/11/2008 18:47

I'm reading this v slowly too. I just can't decide whether to keep going but more because it is so depressing. But then I am over-sensitive on the mother-daughter relationships. Will have to go and check which page I am on, I don't think it is anything like p159. Have you read any of her other books?

luckywinner · 14/11/2008 18:51

Oh god am only on p79. Should I persevere to p159?

rookiemater · 14/11/2008 18:53

I found this rubbish, pointless and self indulgent. Very disappointing after her other novels. Wouldn't bother reading to the end if I were you.

snigger · 14/11/2008 19:02

With at least 70% of books, I skip to the end, then if it's satisfactory, skip back.

I know it's a good book if I don't want to do that.

luckywinner · 14/11/2008 19:12

I found The Lovely Bones v irritating at the end though so not sure why I picked this one up. I think the ending was a complete cop out.

janeite · 14/11/2008 20:27

I thought it was rubbish; I wouldn't bother.

ScottishMummy · 14/11/2008 20:32

find seebold narratives irritating, gloopy and who cares.hated lovely bones

Quattrocento · 14/11/2008 20:34

I left this on a plane this morning. Did get all the way through it but it was turgid. Some do-gooder very kind person picked it up for me. Now it seems I can't even lose the wretched book deliberately.

MissisBoot · 14/11/2008 20:40

I got to about page 100 and dumped it too - am considering going back to it before I have to take it back to the library.

nuttymum303 · 15/11/2008 09:49

It was a library book, so I gave up on p159 lol. I read The Lovely Bones, found it was ok.

I found it so disappointing and depressing my copy went in the charity shop pile after I'd finished it. And I had really enjoyed The Lovely Bones.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 04/12/2008 23:05

I'm glad it's not just me! I'm reading this at the moment and finding it all quite unsettling. I quite liked her other books, but this one makes me feel somehow uneasy

I know this is a month old thread but so glad I found it as I have been really struggling with this book. Finally given up. Just too weird. Loved The Lovely Bones though.
