Love in A Cold Climate

I've just finished reading this on holiday, and loved it. Has anyone read any other of Nancy Mitford's books? I'm browsing Amazon and hoping I'll enjoy her others as much.

The copy I read belonged to the cottage I rented, and had obviously been enjoyed by many other guests as the first chapter was missing. Can anyone fill me on Fanny's background? Obviously I picked up the story about the Bolter and her absent father, but where did she spend her childhood? Was this explained in the first chapter?

oh i love this too! the pursuit of love is sort of the continuation and is fab. there is a third called don't tell alfred which i didn't like as much.

fanny lives with her aunt who marries davy (the wonderful hypochondriac!)and stays with the radletts regularly - eek - i love it so much but not read it for a while - is that what you needed to know?

The Pursuit of Love plays across a longer time scale, so you get some of Fanny's childhood but also after her marriage. It's also very very funny and sad so have tissues ready. The best of NM's books I think.

AFAIR, she grew up with her other aunt but stayed with Uncle Matthew and co during holidays.

Do read the Pursuit of Love, which is fantastic and more of the same - and don't bother too much about Don't Tell Alfred.

So much of them was drawn from life you might be interested to find out a little bit about Nancy MItford herself.

I love reading those two novels - it's like having a conversation with your gossipy friend who knows all about scandal in high places.

I just wondered if I had missed out anything important from the first chapter but it seems not. I shall now by the Pursuit of Love.

I must say I wasn't fond of Cedric at all but I suppose we weren't meant to. I loved Fanny, I thought she was wonderful.

I have read some books on the Mitford sisters and I did enjoy the references like the Hons Cupboard and Lady Radlett's insistence that there is no such thing as ill-health. Great stuff.

I too loved nancy Mitford's books, and have enjoyed reading biographies about Nancy, her five sisters, one brother, and the rest of the Mitford family.

If I remember correctly the 1st Chapter of Love in a Cold Climate sets the scene of Christmas celebrations, family visits, and sumptious descriptions of the house and grounds (albeit freezing cold!)
