Hello, Has anyone seen the film who has already read the biography by Amanda Foreman? What did you think of the translation from page to screen?

If you watched the film with no sound, a large gin, after a 36 hour day with a small baby, it would be OK. Otherwise it was terrible; all the politics was left out, the relationships had changed and the whole debt business that virtually killed her was also omitted. I like Kiera Knightly but she might as well have done a modelling contract really. A waste of time. Book was fabulous though, a real insight into 18c politics.

I started the book, and gave up after about 300 pages, the politics just bored more, and while some of the personal stuff was interesting, it just made me realise how miserable and pointless their lives were (despite their wealth, social status etc). I haven't seen the film.

The reviews of the film totally put me off!

I'm reading the book atm and finding it very interesting but the film reviews have certainly put me off. It is too hyped as having parallels with a certain dead Princess which IMO does not tally with the important parts of the book.

I'm reading The Verneys ATM which is a similar sort of thing which I'd recommend, by the way.
If anyone is interested!
