It was made into a movie which I have not seen but it intrigued me so I got the book. It was written in the 30's and is a quirky, easy to read book. I highly recommend it. I suppose it was "chick lit" in it's day but it actually stands the test of time because the Miss pettigrew character is so delightful. Anyone seen the movie or read it too?

It's a beautiful book, in so many ways. I got a lovely edition of it, it's published by the Persephone Press, with thick paper, line drawings and a gorgeous cover.

It's a great, very easy to read, feel good story. There is just a whiff of anti-Semitism in it, and also a line where Miss Pettigrew advises a young man to physically discipline his girlfriend!!!!!

But it was written yonks ago so we'll forgive. I bought this after reading a recommendation for it from India Knight. She may talk guff in her column but she's a smart and very literate lady and knows an ideal 'comfort book' when she sees one.

It's never on ebay but you can get it on Amazon.

I read it after reading IK's recommendation too; it's lovely. I haven't seent he film, as it only seemed to be in one cinema here, for about two seconds - but I hope it will be coming out on DVD. It's a real feel-good book, perfect for a night in with a bubble bath, hot chocolate and a box of Thorntons Dessert gallery!

It is our book club book this month which was my choice so glad that it seems good.

I read that about two years ago. I loved it! It took me ages to find a copy (a friend has just read it and recommended it to me). I've got the same Persephone Press little hardback edition. It's lovely, isn't it? It is so of its era.

I've got the same grey Persephone edition - I love this book. Bet the film doesn't live up to my expectations.

fabulous book I agree. I am slowly going through the rest of the Persephone stable and they are all beautifully written

I really enjoyed the film but didn't realise it was originally a book.

Must read book now and bet I prefer it to film (always prefer book to film)
